Type 2
I joined when I was very newly diagnosed and feeling lost. I had some fantastic advice and support from you lovely people.

Five weeks on from my diagnosis of Type2, I feel as though I've come a long way and learned a lot. My BG has settled a lot and is now usually between 5.2 and 7, although there have been a few blips this week when it's gone up to around 8 but I've got a nasty cough and cold. I can't find a truly sugar-free cough syrup or lozenge so I'm trying to keep them to a minimum but it ain't easy when your coughing keeps you awake.

I was told by my GP not to test but to leave it to him to do every six months because he said he's the expert. Talk about red rag to a bull! I'm an ex-nurse and a complete control freak when it comes to my treatment so the first thing I did was buy a meter and start testing 🙂 I learned very quickly that the high-carb diet the doctor had told me to stick to is the worst thing I could do. I've been low carb-ing for 3 1/2 weeks now and it suits me fine. My BP is settling down - from 150/95 to this morning's 125/70 and I'm losing weight at a phenomenal rate without any hardship.

I feel 15 years younger than I did the day I was diagnosed and all my colleagues have commented on how healthy I look :D I was determined at the outset that I'd get things under control and thanks to the advice on here and the research it led me into, I think I'm winning.

Thanks to everyone who's posted on here in the last few weeks - I've been reading avidly - and to all the new members, you're in the right place and among friends.

This is a wonderful post Carmina. It's great to see someone successfully taking control of their diabetes. Congratulations, and raspberries to the doctor. 😉

Brilliant Carmina, really pleased to hear this! You have done really well, congratulations! 🙂 Your doctor sounds like he's stuck in some timewarp about two decades ago! 🙄

Fantastic results Carmina, keep up the good work and welcome to the forum.

What a terrific post!... and doctors - pah! who needs 'em :D

So nice to see such a positive post & I honestly don't know where docs get these ideas from about not testing.

Cough medicine wise I use robitussin which is sugar free

Well done Carmina! I have found it useful to test so that I know what is going on. Sometimes I get strips on prescription and other times I don't but I keep onto the doctor, who like yours said no need to test, can't do much about diabetes and it is downhill all the way now. I want to prove him wrong. Bayer gave me a free contour next meter, so you could try asking them. I buy my own strips if I need to as I think it is vital to help to prevent complications Like you I have found this forum so helpful and I think that they are all brilliant and such lovely people. 🙂

what a wonderful inspiring post carmina !
