Hi all have not been on for a while as I dont seem to have the time however here I am stuck in bed feeling ill so the perfect oportunity to catch up. I had to go to my DN today as I have been feeling tired with headaches and pain in my chest for the past couple of weeks which culmanated in mega sore ears, throat and pounding headache on Wed. Turns out I have sinusitus (bloody painful) but have antib's so should be better in next day or so.
I was diagnosed Type 2 in July this year and put on 1x500mg metformin and told that there was no reason for me to have a meter. My reading back then was 16.8 which I have managed to get down to 7.1 however my DN asked me today how my blood sugars were and when I told her I didnot know she said oh thats correct you dont NEED to monitor yourself as you are on Metformin. She tested me and I was 8.9 (before food). I am really confused - I have asked repeatedly for a meter and I keep being told I do not need one, I think it is more to do with costs than the Metformin. I still eat carbs etc however I have lost 2 stones with about another 4 to go. Does anyone think I should get my own meter and if so any recommendations? My DN specifically said not to buy my own - CONFUSED !! Ta (Sorry such a long post) xx
