I'm new to being T2DM. Today around 2pm I began sweating, shaking and feeling like I was going to pass out. Did my BS it was 5.6, had a chocolate snack (I know don't shout) and blood sugar went up to 8.3. It can't have been a hypo could it, 5.6 is a normal reading, right???

What has your BG been if you know? It takes time for your body to adjust to running on normal sugar levels and sensible readings can feel like you're having a hypo.

Are you on any medication at this stage as only certain ones put you at risk of having a hypo.

The diabetic nurse at my GP surgery told me not to test my BG, but I do randomly. I am taking Sitagliptin.

if your bg have been runing high it could be a false hypo ie when sometimes u have been runing high and you get "normal" levels the body can sometimes think its having a hypo

4-7 is normal/healthy.
There's no need to eat carbs when you are 5.6.
Are you diet controlled or just on Metformin? If so, you can't really get a 'hypo' as the body will correct it quite quickly if it does go low.

When I first went low carb I used to get the occasional 'odd' feeling, but I'd just sit down and let it pass.

What’s your aim with testing randomly? Random tests aren’t going to give you information you can act on. If you’re going to test there should be a structure and purpose to it.

Your experience mirrors mine - at all times. I think you have been running 'high' for a long period. if you manage well then a hypo kicks in at a lower level.

A hypo is a defined 'thing' IE a BG reading of below 4. If your BG is above 4 then you're not having a hypo.

It may feel like you are but that is just a feeling. A very unpleasant feeling at times but a feeling nonetheless.

I'm at a similar stage and have had plenty of false hypos over the last couple of weeks. Hateful things!

It is important not to overreact to false hypos though otherwise it will take longer for your body to adjust and get used to normal BG levels

If you're only taking Sitagliptin then the risk of a hypo is incredibly low.

Hypos are caused by drugs such as insulin and gliclazide but not Sitagliptin so I would not overly worry about having one.
