Just got off the phone trying to book my anual review and blood test. New ways of working at the practice is that the bloods are taken at the review. So I asked how the nurse does a review without the blood results and the response was she checks everything else and if there is a problem with the blood results someone will call you. I want to discuss the results as I see this as the more important part of the review. Well that’s the way we do it now was the response. I really find this so frustrating that they don’t seem to see that this is important to me and therefore willing to let me have the blood results for the review. Sorry but I needed to let it out.

I think I would feel frustrated too. Especially if I had made time to have the review and then had to make time for a possible second appointment if the bloods showed a problem. Not good time management on the part of the surgery either in my opinion

That's really frustrating! I once had a review at the hospital with a new young doctor who had a policy of not giving you your HbA1c result until the end of the consultation, so you were discussing how you felt you'd been doing without knowing how you'd actually done. It was like groping around in the dark. Madness!

I find the reviews a waste of time anyway as the nurse doesn’t seem to have less of an understanding of diabete that I do. She is one of those nurses that think T2 don’t need to monitor BG and if they do a couple of times a week should be enough.

At my last review my DN was more concerned about my cholesterol levels than how I was coping with my diabetes. That resulted in a chat with the GP who reassured me he is happy with my cholesterol, although will continue monitoring it. Several days of fruitless worrying on my part probably did me no good at all

You know what I'd do? - and get it all booked now, together.

Do the review their way and hence discuss nothing whatever at all with the nurse BUT as you have also made a GP appointment for one week thereafter, when you attend insist on having the discussion with him since he won't allow you to have a discussion with the nurse and if he whinges tell him WHY - a) because the nurse hasn't a clue and b) you made me.

Won't save YOU any time - but think how much better you'll feel getting that off your chest face to face!

Think I might just do that. I was going to contact the practice and try to talk to the manager, but I think your way will make me feel better.

Well this was not expected. I posted an on line complaint to my surgery and today I had a phone call from the practice duty manager. She firstly apologised for the fact that I was made to feel the way I did and secondly changed my appointments to do the bloods and then the review when the results are in. Result. She said they had changed the process because a lot of T2s have said they don’t want two appointment. These people obviously don’t see how important this is. Anyway I feel that this is the first time I have experienced such positive service from my Doctors surgery.

Well done,JayBay, adding your weight to the chorus of complaints obviously put them into apology mode. A rare triumph indeed!🙂
