I just cant get my insulin doses correct, its all a mess and I don't know how to do it or get it right. I keep asking the Diabetes nurse to help me with my levemir doses but it doesn't happen.

I am half way through the Bertie online which I found out by chance and is proving useful. I try to count carbs but like tonight it went all wrong and I went from 8 to 20mmol within an hour.

I dont know how to basal test with two doses of levemir because of the overlap , I inject 11pm and 9.30am but again it is all guess work, no one has ever helped with my insulin doses, i just kind of ended up injecting more and more and hoping my highs would come down.

Last night I wanted to see what my levemir does and i went to bed with an 11mmol and woke with an 8.4 on finger prick (Libre said 5mmol) .

I have no rhyme or reason to any of it, its all guess work. I feel like giving up and maybe I have :( I feel miserable.

Oh dear :(

I’m sorry I can’t offer any help but if you don’t mind, I would like to join you in feeling fed up

I really hope you get some help

I'm sorry to hear this Flo.
Have you kept a food diary, along with a record of your levels. You might see a pattern.

Yes i do try but sometimes give up cos they are always high. I think if my background insulin was sorted out then i may get somewhere. I did a basal test from noon till 5.30 today and i started off at 7.9 and ended up up 8.5 so thought that was ok,apart from just being slightly high. my mornings are always a bit rubbish. I have strong feet on the floor syndrome. I just feel there's no one there to support or help me.

Sorry to hear that you feel you are not getting the support that you need :( Today sounds as though it has been better, so that's a start. Sometimes it just has to be one day at a time. Would it be an idea to go to see your GP and explain that you are feeling depressed because you need more help? Just a thought. Hope you get some help and well done for today. 🙂

It doesn't matter how many doses of Levemir you have, just do the basal test - because there is a scientific way of calculating how to adjust doses, and I and others can certainly help with that once you've done the tests - so post all the results, give us a shout and we'll get going.

Thank you 🙂 . I will do that.I am planning on doing a few basal tests over the next week. Feeling a bit better today too, sometimes it feels so overwhelming :(

Well much like BERTIE or any of the carb counting courses - it turns out in the end it's absolutely logical Flo - once someone actually shows you an example of what to do when, it will cease to be such a flipping mystery. Ideal to use yourself as the example cos obviously it provides the motivation to understand.

I had a boss at work who taught people how to pass their insurance exams - and he always gave a 'for instance' at which point such subjects as Quantitative Methods in adjusting Business Interruption claims. ceased to be so much like mud wrestling - at least for long enough to pass the exams, LOL
