I'm generally a fairly happy go lucky person and don't often get down about things, but I just feel a bit down about things at the moment. I think it is because via blood tests they have found yet another thing wrong with me which I have a hospital appt about today. It just seems to be one thing after another.
March 2015 at a dermatology appt they noticed swelling in my stomach. I was admitted immediately and they found I had chronic liver disease, and they estimated it was only working at about 22%. Whilst just listening to my heart, they also found out about the problem with my mitral valve which may necessitate a valve replacement in the future (like Malturn recently had).
June 2015 admitted via ambulance to CCU as had a massive internal bleed due to liver problem. They started talking about sending me to the Queen Elizabeth in Birmingham to undergo the tests for a transplant. However, I'm a determined little bugger and worked hard and my liver has improved to an estimated 75% and has remained stable for the last couple of years. I thought great, let's get on with life, but no.
May 2016 Diabetes T1 confirmed and that rollercoaster started. All through this I have also had my lovely chronic psoriasis to contend with which like D has a mind of its own😡.
I was due to start a new biologic regime for psoriasis so had numerous blood tests and X-rays to check everything, and I mean everything!. Unfortunately, 1 of the blood tests came back positive for TB and I have an appt at the respiratory clinic this afternoon. If it is confirmed that I have TB, then it looks like it is latent rather than active as I have no symptoms. I'm concerned though as the treatment is 3-6 months with antibiotics which are known to affect the liver and I really can't afford for that to get worse, but I need it sorted so I can start the treatment for psoriasis which is getting really bad now.

I'm officially FED UP. I've gone for seemingly fit and healthy 3 years ago to constant hospital appts and just as I'm getting sorted Iget hit by something else. On top of this, despite a number of interviews I can't find another job and that is becoming a slight worry as well.
I know I just need to wait and see what they say this afternoon, and that a job will come along. As I say, not much generally gets me down and I just get on with things, because I think it is better to get on and deal with things rather than going down the 'poor little me' route, but yesterday and today Ifeel that I'd really just like a break:confused:.

Anyway rant over and feeling better already🙂

Goodness GG, no wonder you are feeling that everything is stacking up against you! Really sorry to hear this :( I hope that you are able to turn things round and get strength and function back. My Dad had severe psoriasis for most of his life, so I have some knowledge about how that can affect a person. I think he got some relief from UV treatment, although that can bring its own problems.

Lots of {{{{HUGS}}}} and fingers crossed for you.

Good Morning Greyhound Gal. Wow, what an awful time you are having. Life just ain't fair, is it. I join the others to wish you well for your appointment.

Oh GG I’m sorry to hear this and you’re quite entitled to have a rant, scream or bloody good cry hun because all this isn’t fair. Like me, you’ll feel like shouting, ‘no more thanks, I’ve got my share!’
Deal with it in bite size chunks a problem at a time and take support and help from whoever best provides it for you.
Hope the tests go well and sending hugs and huge best wishes x

Thanks for sharing and you certainly deserve a break. That is so much to deal with. I hope the afternoon appointment goes well and you feel better soon. Sending hugs.

Rant away GG, that's what we are here for. A problem shared is a problem halved. Hope your appointment goes well. X

Sorry to hear this @Greyhound Gal, sounds like you are more than entitled to feeling fed up! Sending hugs and well wishes for your appointment x

Hope your appointment goes well today Greyhound Gal, sounds like you have a lot on your plate and it helps to share and get it all out sometimes.

Big hugs to you. 🙂

Hi GG hope you are feeling better today. My op was for an aortic valve but I saw an article in the Daily Mail at the weekend about a new procedure for Mitral valve surgery that was done with keyhole surgery instead of a full on op like I had. This involved a small incision under the right breast and a thing that looked a bit like scaffolding is inserted into the valve to repair the damaged valve. Hope you soon feel better and all the other problems you have resolve themselves with as little treatment as possibel.
BIG HUGS MALCOLM

Hold your arms out and catch this {hug}. Rant on when you need to, and say all the things that you maybe don’t want to say out loud. Only met you once at Glasgow, and really enjoyed meeting you, and you give support to others, so deserve it in return. Hope the appointment today gave you some positive results. Thoughts are with you

Well, I am about to start a 6 month course of antibiotics (Isoniazid). All the TB antibiotics are toxic to the liver, but this is the least toxic one. Due to my liver disease I am to be closely monitored with fortnightly blood tests and calls/appts with the specialist nurse - yet more time off to get past a prospective employer:(. The side effects can be fairly horrid including peripheral neuropathy for which I will be also on high strength Vit B tablets.
Having diabetes makes me high risk for the TB to become active, which would be bad enough, but with my liver, if that happened they wouldn't really know what to do due to the toxicity of the drugs, so this is the best scenario.
I will always test positive for TB as my immune system now has the marker, and it is unlikely (for anyone infected, not just me) that all the bacteria will be killed as they are sneaky little sods apparently, so there is always a chance it could come back as latent and develop into active TB, and as I say I am at higher risk of this happening due to the diabetes, Hence I will be on 'TB watch' for the rest of my life.
Hey Ho. As Vince's tag line puts so aptly 'life is not about waiting for the storms to pass...but about learning how to dance in the rain' - pass me my wellies someone!🙂

Wish I had the skills to put a film clip on here-“singing in the rain”
I love my”circles” joined up, but this lot is one bu&*&#r of a circle.ive picked up on one wee bit of your post, ... as you have to have monitored fortnightly tests, appointments, if they are routine/set appointments and you worked casual/zero hours contract you would have flexibility but it’s just a thought as I don’t know what you do or your circumstances.more {hugs }for you

I really hope the antibiotics don't present any problems, and that side-effects are mild, if they arrive at all {{{HUGS}}} Hoping for the best possible outcome from all of this for you 🙂

This might be completely irrelevant, but has the possibility of Autoimmune Hepatitis ever been raised? I remember we had a member here a few years ago who was diagnosed with this, and it is another one of those autoimmune conditions that can manifest itself alongside other autoimmune conditions. Type 1 and psoriasis are also autoimmune conditions, and often these things are present alongside one another. Sorry if this bears no relevance, just thought I'd mention it as it's pretty rare and a lot of people (including HCPs) have never heard of it.

Thanks Northie. The blood tests I had covered Hep A, B & C and all negative.
Of the 15 things the blood tests covered (9 vials😱) only the TB was positive😡
Feeling more positive today as there is nothing I can do about it other than take the tablets and hope they don't affect my liver too much. Feeling sorry for myself will get me nowhere, and the rant yesterday got it off my chest.
To top it off, it is raining here today so I'll be needing my wellies to start the dancing anyway:D
