Hi all, had a bad week or so with high blood sugars and just generally feeling down about it all.my sugars are high all the time even tho I'm on same dose of insulin. Currently sitting at 14.3 . Any advice on how to stay positive and not let it get to you very much appreciated. Thank you.

Your insulin requirements, both basal and bolus, will change over time so you shouldn't expect to necessarily be staying on the same dose all the time.

Are you on fixed bolus insulin doses or do you carb count and adjust accordingly?

Hi there, yeah I carb count so adjust dose accordingly.

When you bolus for your meals, are you adding a correction to bring your levels down as well as carb counting and blousing for your food.
Unfortunately, when our levels get high, we become insulin resistant so it good to bring our levels down to normal levels with correction bolus.

Just in case it’s not just me, my bloods go either high or low and remain so for on average 5 days when the weather/temperature changes, spring to hot summer, took me time to work this out x

Yeah last night I had 60g of carbs so instead of 6 units took 8 and I think I may as well of injected water for the good it did me. Levels stayed high all night.

Yeah I swapped my insulin pens to a new box. But still having the highs so not sure what could be the reason.

It could be the weather @Type1Pat I ate my normal lunch, took my usual insulin dose for it, then did some gardening (which normally sends me low). I was also walking to and from the shed.

I came in and tested - and my blood sugar was 11.3!! I was expecting something around 4! It’s very humid and thundery at the moment so I’m wondering if it’s that.

Was your blood sugar in range before you ate?

So strange isn't it, hopefully like you say maybe just the change in weather. Bit of a perfectionist so when things don't go right it really annoys me . Which I understand cannot be helped with diabetes sometimes.

I had my normal breakfast today but instead of hovering around a max of 9 and then back to around 5.5 I reached heady heights of 18.9 today. Did all the usual checks and I had done the bolus!!!!! Just one of those days, change in weather, something brewing, …( from another perfectionist!!!)

I find once I am high I need more insulin to get back down in range. I gradually worked out appropriate changes for me, at different levels. It would be worth talking to your DSN about this.

Thank you for the replys everyone, think I need to learn to accept days like this will happen and not to look too much into it maybe. Thanks again all.

You're going to have to, Pat, unless you wish to be driven to distraction very soon indeed. You have to plod at this cos miracles - and more even control - take a little longer ......

Never wanted to be a plodder with anything myself frankly either - so grit your teeth, try to stop gnashing and wailing ALL the time* - and PLOD! Perfection is NOT possible unless you want to spend 100% of your waking life trying to achieve it and even then if your body decides to catch a cold, the weather changes, or whatever - you're stuffed. So settle for 'pretty OK to good'.

We hear you, friend - and empathise.
