Hiya
Wanting advice please, anybody else had similar

I?ve been on 4 x 500 mg Metformin for about 2 months and had little to no problems, then 2 weeks ago my dsn said as my cholesterol was slightly over the guideline of 5 (mine was 5.3) would I like to take statins? I didn?t really like the idea and was prescribed them once before years ago and I didn?t like the way they made me feel. But dsn talked me round and said if I didn?t get on with them then I could just come off them as my cholesterol wasn?t that high, it wasn?t life or death.

So I starting taking them Monday night (40mg, one a night) and everyday I ached more and more, I couldn?t do any exercise coz I ached so much and I felt really woozy at night time, by Thursday I felt so pants I stopped taking them, the next day I barely ached at all.

But nearly a week on and I still feel woozy, its happening during the day now, not all the time, but its not something I?ve not had up to now which is what maked me think its linked to the statins, as that?s the only thing that?s changed. I?ve just refilled my Metformin prescription and I checked the boxes and strips to make sure I hadn?t been given the wrong dose or something and I haven?t, but something, somewhere is making me feel ?.?strange? is the best way to describe the sensation

Hi Claire,
do you have a monitor so you can test your blood sugar?
I'm just wondering if your blood sugar is lower than you are used to or if you are actually hypo?
There's also a lot of cold bugs about as well :(

i do have a monitor and my bg is normally around 7-10 depending on when i last ate and that doesnt seem to have changed in the last couple of weeks. i dont test as much as i used too (practise wont precribe any strips now, so i have to pay from them all myself) but when i do test the numbers are steady

Nothing bad will happen immediately if you stop taking the statin. Have you been given Simvastatin? If yes, try asking for Atorvastatin instead. Fewer side-effects for me.

Having said that, I've recently taken a break from Atorvastatin after several years of taking it, because of a very sore arm (which was what made me stop the Simvastatin). If the sore arm comes back when I start taking it again, I'll see what the doctor says. My cholesterol was never terrible before I took statins anyway, and my diet is now very low fat due to weight loss plan.

See the doctor for advice, it may just be a cold or someother virus that will pass soon, but it is aways worth seeing a doctor if you are worried about it.

yeah it was simvastatin i was prescribed, i phoned dsn and she's just rang me back saying the doctor will fit me in a 5pm, so least i'll get to see someone now.
i did try and just make an appointment with doc, but they couldn't fit me in after work and i've had a bit of time off over last couple of weeks for appointments and didnt want to push my luck. 🙄
