Hello... I am what my doctor calls pre-diabetic. I am not on any medication and do my best to control things by diet. I watched that tv programme recently about giving up drugs and decided to give up the Statins I was on for 3 months. My Doctor agreed and I had every blood test, and in 3 months time will have the same tests done again. Since giving up Statins my blood sugar keeps dropping, which is a good thing, even though it does make me feel sick. My body is used to it being around the 7-10 but since giving up the Statins it is starting to get under 7 and hovering around 6. Unfortunately as I have arthritis is my ankles and knees I can't do loads of walking and was all set to start swimming... but it turns out that I have a perforated ear drum and I am not happy about going swimming until I see the specialist. Because I am pre-diabetic and not on medication my doctor will not prescribe blood test strips or lancets as they say they are not needed so have to buy them on ebay as the chemist charges £30... I am hoping to talk my doctor into changing her mind. I was wondering if feeling sick all the time is part and parcel of my levels dropping... I know alot of people on here are on medication and injections, and that my problem may not be as bad as most of you but I want to get rid of this before it gets worse... hence joining up and looking for support.... tia.

Hi Dibs Welcome. First things first And I'm sorry for shouting YOU ARE NOT A FRAUD !!! You are lucky insomuch that you have a chance of reversing it 🙂.
IMO Your right not to go swimming till you get the all clear re your ear drum, I hope it heals up quickly.
It's good to hear that you are testing, yes most docs will not prescribe test strips unless you are on meds that can cause hypos's and even if you are, as a T2 they usually severely restrict them , in some areas our fellow T1s are encountering problems in being prescribed enough strips and there very lives depend on them knowing what their BGs ( blood glucose) is doing, its wrong no matter what flavour of diabetes we have , it's all about £s Sorry for the rant . As you already know having a meter teaches us what foods we need to avoid or cut down on which in the long term will save loads of £s
What glucose meter do you have as we know one that is much cheaper to self fund and is just as reliable as more expensive ones. It's the SD Codefree which ATM is cheaper strips here around £8 for fifty
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Codefree-G...F8&qid=1478751928&sr=1-2&keywords=SD+Codefree

I'm wondering if the symptoms you are getting are what we call false hypos's, the feel just as bad as the real ones, try eating a small snack ,say a couple of rich tea biscuits , if the symptoms go afterwards then it's a false hypo and once your body gets used to running less sweet again the problem will clear up. If after a snack the symptoms don't clear up then it would be best to chat to your GP
Hope you don't mind me asking how did you come to be diagnosed , do you know what your Hb1ac the fasting blood test was.
Feel free to ask questions. Others will be along later.

Hi Dibs
You're not a fraud at all, but you might find that you can "reverse" or control the path of type 2 diabetes with the right interventions. The lack of test strips for people with type 2 and pre diabetes is a contentious subject around these parts, because whilst most of us understand that the NHS doesn't have infinite resources we also know how useful testing is for people trying to work out what they can eat and the impact of exercise, which can be very useful tools to help people reverse type 2 and control diabetes in general, whatever the type. Feeling sick and a bit wobbly as LJC said could be something called a false hypo personally I hate that term and prefer to use the word wobbles because the term "false" tends to make you feel like it's nothing, and it doesn't feel like that at the time. The human body has no concept of blood sugar as a number at all it just has a concept of normal, it recognises blood sugar dropping without intervention though because that would normally mean the body is starving and the survival instinct is to eat food in order to reinstate normality. It all works very well when you're not diabetic or pre diabetic. When you're running higher blood sugar though that's what the body recognises as normal, so when you're blood sugar drops the brain panics fearing starvation is on the horizon and then sends you signals to do something about it. The best way I found to stop it was a small lump of cheese. That has no impact on blood sugar but does stop the body worrying about starvation, so essentially distracts it from panic stations. If it is the blood sugar wobbles then it will calm down soon as you're body adjusts to your new lower normal.

It could be that perforated eardrum though causing you to be wobbly too, it affects balance quite a lot, and can make you feel quite unwell, so best to check it out with a doctor if it's causing you trouble. Anyway I'll stop prattling and say welcome aboard 🙂

Welcome, Dibs.🙂

Welcome to the gang Dibs.

Welcome Dibs, nothing to feel fraudulent about...... I bet all of us T2's would have preferred to be caught at the pre-D stage.... Though I prefer to think of Pre-D as not as diabetic as the rest of us.

Warm welcome to the forum Dibs

Thank you everyone... I will be doing my best to reverse it if at all posible...It is an experiment I have with my doctor... I stopped taking Statins and my sugar keeps dropping lower than it used to... so I will try not to panic and not eat loads when it happens... thanks for the warm welcome..

I sweat To the points I am too embarrassed to go out it literally drops of by face pours like water cold damp sweat then slightly after 10 mins activity I and pouring again, my weight is a yo yo all my life I have to virtually starve to be my normal bmi and I should be between 8-9 stone in nearly 13 and it keeps going up and I eat less and less I don't rear fast food or drink alcohol the only harming thing I do is get sugar crashes and grab something g small and sometimes sugary like today I had a peanut butter sandwich a protein bar 10 litres of water I had a few marshmallows of my soon but that's it. I can leave up to 10 hours before eating and won't eat in public. And my mobility had slowed I'm only 35 and to look normal I literally have to fast I don't have an appetite anyway which is why I snack I'm so miserable tired and I tried to explain o receptionist today at doctors my source seemed worse that's my dad who has T2 and she told me off for self diagnosis no one believes I don't eat but and swollen and the weight won't stop and I am afraid of dropping I have a young family and I don't look obese but if anyone from 3 years ago walked passed they wouldn't recognised me I won't even go out I'm sorry to jump thread but I feel as desperate as this latest I asked for my scores from last test they were borderline normal......I do t know what to do I go cross eyed with exhaust I can't get a breath I don't sleep and I have no Walcott of lif I have swerve arthritis in my back and it's punishment enough with out something g they are u willk g to diagnosis right. Has anyone had the the private service tests?

Last GL was 6.2 but again I could have been flooded with water faster or just ate and I think I definitely crash.

So sorry again I'm desperate

Hi Debbie & welcome to the forum. Your problems sounds just like my wife's. This year she was diagnosed with 3 types of arthritis (RA, OS & PAS) & Fibro. She is in constant pain, swells up like a balloon, has severe sweating & severe fatigue. Getting treatment has been a nightmare. She is on numerous pain killers & other tablets, but is still awating some kind of proper treatment plan, which seems to be taking forever. I hope you get sorted soon.

Thanks Mark

I do it's awful I fuse the FMS diagnosis because my legs are not a side effect of FMS and as soon as you say it you immediately have someone's back turned.

I can't understand they symptom are that it diabetes or thyroid nut are ignored. I don't have all over body pain I have 3 very bad joints and arthritis all my over symptoms are excessive cold sweat excess urination kidney ducats and a poorly over used bladder with frequent infections how can you drink 10-12 litres of water a day and your GP not be concerned I stop all mettle med apart from one pain one because the less I have against me the less they have to blame.

Is 10.0 a normal reading!? Or my symtprooms ? At this stage I am thinking of private medical I can't afford I refuse to acknowledge the little I eat causes me to weigh what I do and of course to a doctor your lying he said lock your self in a room for a week and starve you'll loose weight I assure you maybe a little but not as suggested. I feel so sorry for your wife FMS is a curse it's used for everything treated for nothing x
