OK, now they've decided that thin people are more at risk of Type 2 diabetes etc.! We've heard this before of course, as it refers to the dangers of 'hidden' visceral fat around the organs, but nice to see that they are actually publishing stuff that shows all people need to be vigilant, and maybe makes all those thinner people who sneer and point the finger less snobby about their more overweight-appearing peers:

I give up !!! I was told 'hard luck' when I said to someone I had D , they remarked I was too thin to get it !
 
I've just found the same report on Aunty. Apparently the 'lean gene' could be bad for your heart as well.
 
Here's the Daily Fail's take on the story. There's actually some good information in the report, but coupled with some very poor reporting which seems to contradict itself. The lady they choose as an example clearly has a very strong genetic link to Type 2 and there is no indication that her diabetes was caused by visceral fat which is the central point of the report, as she has always led a healthy lifestyle with a good diet - exactly what you are supposed to do to avoid diabetes whether you are fat or thin!

The more publicity that this gets then, hopefully, the stereotyping will stop.

Another article on this suggests soluble fibre may be the answer to hidden fat.

Agreed, maybe a lot of those complacent thinnies will stop pointing the finger at the overweight and also that the campaigns for healthy diet and lifestyle will begin to encompass everyone. An interesting link, thank you cherrypie 🙂
 
I'm a skinny malink, 5ft 4ins , 8st 4ozs. always have been on the thin side but so have the rest of my family, we are built like that. When a teen I could stuff myself and never put weight on. Some people are like that. It is good to know that there has been some research into D in skinny folks. I am diet controlled and keep pretty much to it only having the odd treat now and again. I've never been a sweet tooth, much rather have savourys.
