Hi,

I'm due to have a pancreatic ultrasound scan next tuesday!
Although hypoing isn't too too much of a problem, I do go back up again, we checked whether it is okay to eat beforehand.
My appointment is at 12pm and it says not to eat 6 hours before i'm not sure if that still applies but i'm presuming not hence why they told us to eat specifically... and obviously I don't fancy getting up at 5am for some brekkie!

They told us to eat fat free/dairy free and i'm not too sure what this could be then! Any ideas?

Cereal with no milk? Soya milk etc still contains fat, even though it's not dairy.

I'd phone & check exactly whether they mean ie don't eat anything in 6 hours before scan or just don't eat anything containing fat or dairy products. If you have to eat early, then eat as near as possible to the 6 hour before mark, even if that means eating on bus or in car (when parked if you're driving). Must admit, I would struggle to eat a fat free breakfast while cycling to an appointment,m but fortunately, never be required to do so.

Might be worth asking why they told you not to eat. Is it so that your stomach is empty (and therefore smaller/out of the way?)

When Mrs EDU&D had ultrasounds during pregnancy I remember she was asked to arrive at appointments with a full bladder. I gather this made the images clearer - though from what I can tell the technology has come on considerably in recent years.

Other than that if hypo is the problem you are trying to get around fruit pastilles have nil fat, so you could just skip breakfast that day.

I suspect the mention of fat is due to proximity of gall bladder, which releases bile to digest fat, to pancreas.

Pancreas and gall bladder are nowhere near bladder or uterus for pregnancy ultrasound scans, where a full bladder helps position for easier / better scan views.

There are many dairy free products these days. As a vegan I only consume dairy free.

Soya milk is very good for you and has calcium in it. Look at Free from range's in Sainsburys and Tesco's.
Pure margarine is dairy free and comes as either soya, sunflower and the new olive.

Also H&B have good choice to.
