Fasting blood tests

To use my sister's favourite saying... "What's the worst that could happen?". You've got nothing to lose by ticking the box!

They're taking the blood anyway! OK, I know it will probably involve extra expense, but I've just read in 'Diabetes for Dummies' that you should expect to have a fasting test at least once a year and I haven't had one since diagnosis 16 months ago.

My main problem at the moment seems to be hypos. I've had two today and was 5.5 two and a half hours after eating my evening meal. If I need anything before bed, then the fasting is scuppered, as it needs to be 12 hours for a reliable triglyceride test.

Fingers crossed for you then Northerner, and good luck for tomorrow either way.

Thanks Helen! I decided to tick the box as I really think I ought to have the full set of 'numbers' for my collection and future reference! The lady who took the blood was the best ever - no messing about, found the vein straightaway, in with the needle and then she'd taken 3 tubes of the red stuff before I knew it! It didn't even bleed afterwards! 🙂

Off for something to eat now. My waking level was 4.7, I've now gone 17 hours since my last meal, and just took another reading - 7.0. Looks like my basal is just about keeping me in range, but could probably do with some more 'circulating' insulin to bring me down a bit. Probably have a couple of units and a biscuit! 😉

Glad it went well Northerner - it makes such a difference when you get a 'dab hand' at the blood taking - they usually have trouble locating my veins (buried under too much flab, I suspect 😱 ) but the last young lady who 'did' me was in and out in a painless flash!

xx

Goodluck with the results Northe, when do you get them?

Next Tuesday. I could probably have waited a couple of days before giving the samples, but thought I'd make sure they were processed in time. When do you have yours next Katie?

When I went to the hospital in August(?!) I booked the next one for a year's time. I'm thinking of asking my gp for another test before I go to Aus though.
