I have noticed again subtle changes in three other areas that I can only attribute to getting BG's under control, low carbs and reducing my weight.
1 Eyes
When I had my annual eye test last year my optician reduced the strength of my prescription because of in improvement in my vision. This was prior to my diagnosis. However, in my left eye there had been a thrombosis years ago and it was decided to laser it which was done.
Peripheral etc is fine but, before my dx most morning when I woke up I just couldn't focus on anything especially the computer and it took a good 30 minutes for this to pass.
In the past 3 weeks that morning experience has totally disappeared and I no longer have that issue and I can actually see clearer without my glasses than I can with them. I do not over-state that at all.
2 Ears
Terrible itching in my left ear anti biotic drops gave it a few days respite but wouldn't go away. Guess what? Since BG under control I have not had any further reoccurence since about Oct 1.
Again I put that down to low carbs and BG control. I may be wrong but that is my analysis.
3 Legs
Never really an issue however, around 4 days after i started to reduce my levels I had incrediblle and scary tingling in both legs and cramps. This went on for 5 hours non stop. Sitting in Shanghai "this is it I thought". Vince went into panic mode.
Did some research on this forum and discovered it is normal and is the effects of our body hunting for sugar. Was so relieved when I read that.
It has not happened since.
My conclusion is that high BG's, especially if left undiagnosed has a significant detrimental effect on many many parts of our anatomy and being diagnosed, either rightly or wrongly, gives a wake up call loud and clear.
Improvements appear to happen quickly which is extremely motivating.

I think you'll find that's for us to decide.

On the subject of eyes. If I fall off the wagon dietwise it only takes a few days for my eyes to let me know about it. My sight becomes blurry very quickly if my BG isn't kept in check. I also get terrible cramp in my lower legs...particularly when I'm in bed. Being 'good' seems to boost my immune system, gives me better skin and significantly shortens the time it takes for my body to repair cuts, bruises etc.

There has already been a significant improvement in my skin condition much to my amazement. So I must continue to be good. I thought it may have been my imagination initially but when I get comments like your Mars it confirms my belief. This forum is brilliant.

Well done Vince. Thanks for a clear account. It was obvious that your comments about legs was third in the list.

Vince...thank goodness you have a sense of humour...quick wit...and a sense of repartee...otherwise we could all be in danger of taking ourselves seriously here...talking of the third leg...puts me in mind of one of my favourite films...The third man...full of conspiracy theories...plot & intrigue...double dealings...almost Machiavellian...have you read Machiavelli?...plus Orson Welles...that smooth velvety voice...those were the days eh...hope the third leg and your good self is not offended by my comments...:D:D:D:D

So True Bubbsie
I read the "Prince" years ago. Another interesting one is "The Art Of War", Sun Tzu
Not offended at all. How could anyone be offended by a sardonic sense of humour. We need humour in our lives. Humour makes the World go around.
Reminds me of "Jake The Peg" but we will not go there for obvious reasons.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...not admitting I know anything about Jake The Peg Vince...admission of my age...and the fact I used to like Rolf Harris...before his fall from Grace.

It must have been the Wobble Board. lol

Okay...The Art Of War is on my reading list now...will get back to you on that.

LOL this thread made me chortle. :D Y'all are so funny.

S'true though, D messes everything up. It's just dawned on me reading this that my 'affliction' which I've had for years and which they've now given me steroid cream for is probably caused by high bg. Agh. I need to get bg sorted out.

Keeping Active is by far the best way. Your whole body needs to be moving. More than 51yrs of T1 & NEVER been unemployed in my life. Yes I am not as fit I used to be but I love life & would walk miles to not pay hospital car parks etc. (its me). Keep at it Vince 🙂
