You know we are entitiled to free eye tests, is it just one a year? i had my eyes done in july last year with the intention of getting back to them when i had the cash well i never did and now i reckon ill need another test as my eye results showed retinopathy, so am i entitled to another free test or not?

I think general eye tests are free, but that's not looking for diabetic changes, although some places are offering to take images for that purpose.......

I am due to go back, got specs last year as I was straining when sitting in front of a computer screen most of the day.............😱
 
The retinal scans are done once a year and we get one free scan a year. We are also entitled to one free sight test a year, although I am not sure if the sight test will pick up any retinopathy there might be.

As far as I understand it you can have free eye test once a year & it is different to the retinopathy one.

When I had mine for the first time in Dec 10 the optometrist(can't spell) said she could also do an eye test on another day for me. With my employer I was entitled to a free test every 2 years unless you have a medical condition such as diabetes when they pay for it each year. They have a contract with Specsavers so I have to go there as the voucher from my employer also shows they will pay for VDU specific glasses (which I need).

This year my distance eyesight has improved so I've decided not have a general test this year unless it changes.

If your sight changes would it be worth contacting the retinal screening office who co-ordinate it as they may have some info on whether you can have another free eye-site test before the 12 months is up if your sight is changing?

Best thing for me to do is ring my local branch I guess, just gotta find the number now,I may have to pay the ?20 my OH just had to this morning then x
 
steff you can book your eye test before july, but it will be your anual free test for this year.
 
Steff, there are a few optitians doing FREE eye tests in my area (maybe also in your area). You are only entitled to ONE free eye test each year.

You get your retinopathy test from NHS or optician I think.

You can also have a free normal eye test for vision from an optician which may be done at the same time if they also do the retinopathy test.

NHS do my retinopathy so I can go to an optician once a year and get a free eye test too.🙂

I've always had my retinopathy test either at the hospital or in one of their nice vans. I think you can have it done at an opticians in some areas.

The free eye test (for glasses) that normally costs ?10+ is free once a year for diabetics at specsavers, etc.

If you go before the 12 months is up, you're meant to pay the test fee. But as long as it averages about once a year I would imagine they're ok.

I think it used to be every 2 years but it changed at some point.

I had my retinopathy last year, August., and booked a free opticians eye test last month.(BTW, they also did a retonopathy photo despite me saying I had had one done). Optician said he would see me again in a year.

However, I believe if your sight deteriorates, you can have another free test within the year.

Right well ill take it that i have had changes in my eyes that qualifies me,i tryed to ring my local branch on 2 occasions but its ok will try tomorrow early doors
 
Retinopathy, if you ask very nicely they will turn the screen towards you so you can see whats going on in your own eye. It is very interesting photo. I will ask very nicely if it can be uploaded onto my USB storage device. It would make a good screen saver/desktop.
 
My yearly Diabetic eye screening is done at the Diabetic clinic at the Hospital, I had mine in February and I have been referred to the Eye Department at the Hospital as my results showed I may have Diabetic Maculopathy.. so they will take over my eyes until they say I am ok or have to have treatment.

In Septemeber I have the general eye test at Specsavers which is also free, they also now take a retinal scan like they do at the hospital.
 
All sorted with specsavers im to go in next week and pay for specs and then pick them up when i get the phone call from them 1-2 weeks later,i dnt need to have a re-test but he did suggest that after my left eye has got worse i should not of left it as long as this, yeah easier said then done mate when you aint got the cash to pay 🙄

Well bk wen I had test in July my left eye had deteriated hence my prescription changed,so I've been wearing glasses that r wrong f me since July cause of shortage of funds,I told him bout retinopathy changes since July but didnt come into play x
