Hi there

I had my routine test yesterday and it came up with a haemorrhage and some white fatty deposits in the same eye so they are referrimg me to the hospital. I am only 31 and have always had good HBA1C (around 7).
Last year I had a baby and the haemorraghe came up then but the hospital said it was nothing to worry about so I assumed it was just the pregnancy. Now I have the white blobs!
The silly thing is since yesterday I have major eye ache which I am worried about even though it could be pshycological!

The lady who took the pics said I would get a referral letter in the next week or so (which sounds quick).

Has this happened to anyone else?

Yes, although not a haemorrhage. I had changes near the macula so had to go to the hospital - the appointment was about 3 months after the photos I think, so not particularly speedy. The consultant took a much closer look and decided no work needed to be done. I'm still going to the eye hospital now for my appointments, just so they can keep a close check on things. As in my case, it might depend on where the changes are as to whether they are concerned. My HbA1c had been in the 5s since diagnosis, so I was a bit upset as you think, well what can I do about it - I can't lower my HbA1c any more! Blood pressure is also important.

I hope that they decide that no further treatment is needed and that you get the appointment quickly so you don't end up worrying for ages.

Hi there, I had blobs of fatty deposits round the macular area in my left eye a couple of years ago. I had to go to the hospital and they had another look using the same sorts as drops as you will be used to, the consultant felt that laser treatment would be the best option and as they'd had a cancellation I had it done there and then. That doesn't mean that you will need treatment as Northerner has already said, he has managed to avoid it so far. Try not to worry too much. I was terrified of the laser but they were very kind to me and it didn't hurt, just uncomfortable and I'd got myself quite worked up which didn't help. All the best for your appointment, keep us informed, Love Karen.

Thanks, yeah I will stop worrying now. Hopefully they will laser it Off. That's why we have the test right?! X

Hi Tabbicles. I had some White exudates near my macula and they just layered the one that they were worried about. The laser didn't hurt at all.
