eye screening test

hi everyone.. diagnosed T2 in November.. I've just received results of my 1st eye screening test.. it says I have some background retinopathy... but do not need treatment at the moment.. can I ask.. if my numbers fall .. to less than 48... ( so not in diabetic range )...will retinopathy still be a problem?..and will I still be classed as diabetic?....hope that makes sense....
 
Hi @Vee, those letters seem to be fairly standard ones and I wouldn't worry too much. I had one saying the same thing once, and I know many others here have had them. If you have good control of your D there shouldn't be a problem, though of course you must take care of your eyes in any case and regular screening tests are very important.

May I ask what your current HbA1c is? I'm afraid that once classed as diabetic, you will always remain so.

hi.. thanks for reply...my last test was 59... and I take metformin... next one is due in May... I was surprised with eye test result... and a bit worried if I'm honest...not knowing about what it was... .. and I haven't the patience to wait and see dn in May...I really appreciate the threads on here ... so helpful...x
 
I had one of those background retinopathy letters last year which caused me a little anxiety but like others here, my next one was normal. I am not sure if that means the background retinopathy previously seen has repaired itself or it has not deteriorated but the best that any of us can do is manage our diabetes to the best of our ability to keep the risks of any further damage. There has been lots of discussion about the wording of those letters being unduly harsh or frightening when they shouldn't be. Just keep doing all the right things and hopefully, like me and many others you will get the all clear next time.
