I was due an appointment at the Eye Hospital on December 1st last year - I'm supposed to get them every 4 months because of the DMO (Diabetic Macular Oedema) affecting my left eye. The appointment was cancelled and rearranged for May 18th 🙄 Then, earlier this week, I received another letter saying that appointment had been cancelled and they would write to me when one becomes available.

As you may imagine I was somewhat annoyed by this complete failure to provide me with the treatment and checks they had told me were very important for my sight, so I called the number on the letter, planning to give them a piece of my mind. However, as soon as the lady took my details she went to speak to her supervisor and they offered me an appointment for today! I felt a bit thwarted as I was unable to unleash the seven levels of hell on the department, and meekly agreed 🙄

So - wish me luck! 🙂

Wow, glad to hear they got you something sorted so soon!
All the best and good luck my dear, know what its all like by now so you have my sympathy lol, hope you aren't there too long 🙂 xx

Thanks @Kaylz, much appreciated 🙂

Ha! Just shows that our system relies heavily on standard, computer-generated responses, when actually a conversation is what is needed! The system often fails to prioritise patients. Glad it’s sorted though and good luck! Katie

Thinking of you Alan. I hope that your appointment goes well xx

Good luck with the eye appointment!

I had to put up with a cataract that completely covered my right eye for 2.5 months before surgery & it was hard! Didn’t know I had a cataract until it was a blanket white when I got up one morning. My brain had been compensating with the other eye.

Are you still steaming? I know what THAT’S like! I have to pick up my courage for rightful confrontations sometimes & then get surprised when there’s no need for it & I’m non plused! Just kick a few bushes in the garden! :D

Well the house is sold now, so you could kick the wall! LOL

Well, eyes have settled now after the drops, so I can see the screen 🙄 Not the greatest of appointments as the condition of my left eye has got significantly worse :( Still not quite at the point of needing the injections, but when I asked the consultant how far off, he suggested about 10%. The last photos I had done he said were about 30% off, so a deterioration of 20% :(

Basically, I'm unlucky with where the problem is occurring, close to the macular - further out and there wouldn't be a concern. Also, my right eye is fine, it only affects my left eye, so it must have some weakness that the DF is exploiting :( He did say it could improve, or not get any worse, but he didn't sound convincing 🙄

He has me down for possible lasering/placing a dye so that they can monitor the progression more accurately, although that will need to be communicated to whoever I end up seeing when I move.

Very frustrating when there is nothing you can do about it - my HbA1c, blood pressure and cholesterol - which are the three main things to watch - are all fine, just luck of the draw.

Sorry to hear this @Northerner :( not the news anybody wants but at least there is no need for treatment at the moment, not sure what else to say really, sorry :( xx

What a PITA Alan. Also unsettling, with your move ahead - you'll need a decent conversation with your new GP to get referred everywhere you need to be.

Thanks everyone. Just bad luck really, nothing I have done wrong and nothing that can be done other than doing my best, as I always do 🙂 I have to say though, that without the support and sharing of experiences that I have read here on the forum over the years I would be considerably more worried. Knowing what I might expect is far less scary than what I might otherwise have ended up imagining 😱 🙂

Oh dear, sorry to hear that your left eye has deteriorated, Northie.

Sorry to hear about the deterioration in your eye Alan. Hope it slows down/stops progressing now.

I'm sorry to hear this Northerner
