Not sure if anyone here knows about Expert Patient Courses? they are for people with long term medical conditions and are designed to help us cope with day to day living and how to get the most out of our medical care. The courses normal run for 6 weeks in conjunction with the local NHS trust or PCT. I think there are also courses for carers and young people too, but it is worth exploring the site to see what you can find out.

the website is www.expertpatients.co.uk:p

I completed the course last summer. It was over 6 weeks, 1 evening a week. The one I attended, for T1, had newly diagosed, carers and 'old' timers. It was run by a dietician and a diabetic nurse. Although very imforative (ie, things/rules had changed since I was diagnosed 8 years ago), each evening finished with a quiz, which was a hoot. Round 20 people, so it was a good number.

I would strongly recommend it to anyone

Cheers

Sounds cool. Will have to see if there is one in Leighton Buzzard or Milton Keynes. 🙂

I did this course a while ago. It was interesting and I met some nice people but I was the only diabetic on the course so I learned nothing about diabetes. So to be honest apart from meeting some nice people it was a waste of time! If the course is centered around people with diabetes then I'm sure is would be great.

I contacted the HR Well Being Advisor at my firm and they are trying to get an Expert Patient course or courses at work. Can't be bad can it?😛

just looked on the site and there is no course by me :( guess i will have to speak to my dn and see if she knows of any.

if you also know anyone else near you with a long term medical condition get them to make enquries too. The more people who ask the more likely a thing is to happen.
