Went to pick up my prescription this morning. Written across the script was the word expensive 😱

So I asked why this was.
Answer was any expensive script has to go to a seperate costing dept and be varified.
The script steroids 5p/tablet
Insulin
test strips.

I had this on my script for one of the BP medicines that I take.

The NHS is trying to save money and we have heard of people not having a choice of testing meters and I think there will be calls for cheaper substitutions of our existing medications soon.

The NHS reckons that there are ?150 million worth of unused drugs returned to pharmacies every year.

I wonder what they would make of mine if I put in a full request?

Lantus*
Novorapid
200 needles
300 Accuchek strips
50 Optium strips*
10 Optium ketone strips*
50 ketone pee strips*
204 multiclix lancets*
A-Z vitamin tablets**
Aspirin e/c tablets**
56 candesartan tablets

*= Once in a blue moon (actually, there is a blue moon this month, on the 31st)

**=no longer taken

😱

?192.34 Northie

with 1 box of 5 cartridges for both insulins, if the ketone blood strips are the same price as the glucose, and the different strength Candesartan go up in price so I took the middle one.

Crikey! 😱 I'm on 4mg candesarten but thinking about stopping them as my BP often goes a bit low these days.

We get free scripts, but what cost can you put on good health? If we don't look after ourselves we get ill and can't work which would work out more expensive.

I am costing the NHS ?32 per month and that is only for my other conditions. I don't take any medication for my D 😱 🙄. I would hate to think how much my hubby and father are costing as they are both on just about every different type of D tables...

oops - well if I go onto Bydurion, I will double my costs. However my GP says it is worth it

I think the Scottish system is slightly different

I get at least 25 prescription meds/dressings every month, usually nearer to 30.

Do I count my insulin pump in or not!

I cost my doctor, 1 vial of insulin every 6 weeks, and 6 box's of test strips a month..

Oh, a 10pk of disposable syringes and Gluogen kit, around about every 2/3 years depending on when the expiry date runs out...

But I think I can deduct the actual cost of the pump, because the year I got it, I did refuse a operation on my foot... Can't see the point of allowing a Surgeon lose on my foot with stainless steel hammer and chisel, to remove a bone spur that a diabetic registrar found when checking my feet... When said bone spur (side of the foot) doesn't pose a health threat, doesn't effect walking, doesn't effect what shoes I choose to wear and most of importantly of all it doesn't cause me any pain what so ever.... Can't even claim that it's disfiguring, it's a small lump on the side of my foot that nobody sees!

But I'm cheaper than hubby though..

He's on insulin , bp, statins and asprin

P.S

I haven't mention emergency background insulin, because I can borrow a cartridge off hubby's if my pump goes down... Just need the disposal syringe to draw up quick from my vial if needs be

Oooh that's ?9.78 for 28 tabs as against the ?12.72 I had allowed for it, so you are ?6 cheaper !
