Thanks Diabetes UK. I look forward to seeing the change in DVLA actions as soon as possible, long before the 2 year deadline.

A sensible decision and well done DUK for their work on this.

Oh good, that means I might be able to resume my driving lessons at some point then? I'm not currently allowed because I'm a nocturnal hypoglycaemia gal with zero awareness. So silly because my hypo awareness when awake is very acute, and as I said to the consultant, I only propose to drive when awake. Don't get me wrong I am utterly opposed to any dangerous driving behaviour, including getting behind a wheel whilst not in full possession of your faculties but the nocturnal hypoglycaemia is a different beast because by definition it only happens when asleep!

We might not have to listen to EU shortly ?

Some of us hope not LOL !

But whilst I know very well that we survived perfectly fine without it - and also know that being in the EU didn't alter eg France's attitude towards buying from us - they still never wanted to if they could get it from practically anywhere else at all - I started wondering about 'stuff like this' (the Driving rules) Oooerrr......

And then realised that all these medical bodies in Europe already existed before the EU, and we were part of them anyway! 'Medecin sans Frontiers' truly in operation.

The retinopathy rules have changed as well.
DVLA does not require a field vision test if you have had no more treatment since the last licence issued.

Rules & more rules. A lot of office workers being employed. The system was ok. Did you know if you drive in France you have to carry 2 blow in the bag alcohol test devices. When we go on Motorbikes panniers are full of gear 😛

Hobie, you're mixing up DVLA (UK) rules which relax restrictions for drivers who have serious hypoglycaemia episodes (requiring help from another person) only when asleep (when non-one drives), with the requirements of all drivers / motorcyclists in France to carry breath alcohol test kits. Completely different issues.

If I recall this is a typical French rule!
not carryng them is indeed an offence , but the penalty on conviction is NIL!

We went to France 3 years ago and I got all the stuff legally required - hi-vis vests for everyone in the car, set of spare bulbs, headlamp converters etc but as you say although the law on compulsory carrying of breathalysers in vehicles had been passed the 11 euro fine for not carrying one had been postponed indefinitely. 🙄 I didn't get bother getting one.

Hope things are out of there control now ! A lot of work for Duk wasted & they could have spent it on a cure o_O

Not wasted, Hobie, even if we retake control of our own laws, we'll keep the established ones unless someone pushes for a change.

I do not like waste Robin. Its just another thing that has taken effort from this country. 🙂 I bet its a loss without us 😎

The international medical committees will still exist same as they did before the EU. And WHY would you want the thing about nocturnal hypos to be re-introduced anyway?

What Hobie - you mean you actually think the French DO as they are told to, or indeed as THEIR Law says they must? (ROFLMAO)

You haven't really spent that much time there, observing what they actually really do and don't do, day to day, have you?
