Hello all,

Recently had a sinus infection followed by food poisoning, became extremely sensitive to insulin (probably as wasn't eating). Anyway the past 2 weeks I cannot get my numbers down, I'm upping my levemir and my novorapid and cannot get under 10

In total I'm taking 44 u levemir (split in 2 doses) & 22 u novorapid across 3 meals, I weigh just under 11 stone. Have had low ketones for 5 days. Not sure what else to do. I might take a correction dose before bed 🙄

On the plus side I finally got my appointment to see a consultant at the hospital on Wednesday.

Downloaded my meter readings, managed to stay in the zone 27% of the time, and my standard deviation is 3.7. My control this past year looks terrible.

Sorry to hear this :( It sounds like you really do need that consultant appointment, so I hope everything goes well on Wednesday 🙂 Forgive me for asking, but are you still on fixed doses of novorapid? If so, then that is going to cause big problems when you are ill as any relation of your insulin to your food is going to go out of the window. People normally experience elevated levels when poorly, but obviously if you are not eating then this can cause lows if you are not adjusting your insulin to just target the illnesses. You've got quite a split of fast and slow insulins too, with slow comprising the bulk, which will make it difficult to tackle the fluctuations caused by food and illness. I hope things settle for you soon so that you have more of a level playing field and can really get to grips and good control - hopefully that consultant visit will clear things up a bit!

Hi Northerner.

Thanks for the reply, I am not taking fixed doses of NR, I am trying to carb count, but as my basal is not right, my NR just doesn't seem to be working.

Got another cold starting so that's not helping. Roll on Wednesday!
