Erectile dysfunction in diabetics

For nearly 2 years I have tried to get a diagnosis as to why I can not ejeculate or keep an erection. Recently I had testosterone levels checked they came back low so had an mri scan. This came back normal. The Dr ordered another blood test to check my testosterone levels again. This time it was normal. He now says I need to do another blood test in 3 months time. I recently got married and my wife and I would like to start a a family but I feel like I am not getting anywhere with my Diabetic Dr or GP. It's getting me down now and feel as if I'm not getting anywhere. At 29 years old this is worrying. I know my bloods could be improved. I do try my hardest to do what is best for my diabetes. Any help and advise would be much appreciated.

Hi Piratemarc, welcome to the forum 🙂 Have you been diagnosed long? What insulin are you using, and what is your control like? Whilst it can be a complication of diabetes, it's not necessarily so. Can you get a second opinion? You might find the following helpful:

I've been diabetic just over 19 years now. Im on Lispro and tresiba. My control could be better. There's room for improvement. I did try to get a second opinion at my local Drs surgery. I rang up and at this surgery a dr rings you back to see if its necessary to come in but the second Dr didn't really want to know and said that it sounded like my Diabetic Dr had everything under control with investigating it.

I have had the problem for years, even Viagra was not working. What has changed is that I feel more comfortable with a certain lady and things do tend to happen in that things do work even just as best mates with no sex, just can get an erection or at least a partial one. The main difference with her (the boss who I do love to bits) is that I feel so relaxed with her as we could talk about anything. Even visiting sex shops and looking at toys together it is more of a fun visit. When I had a girl friend every thing was not as relaxed and it was as if the pressure to perform was greater and things just went pear shaped in that department.

Maybe part of it is you feel under pressure to perform and things go wrong, even with your wife you may be under pressure that you are not aware of and it is having some effect on top of everything else.

Previously I would not even dream of going to places like Anne Summers pretty tame compared to some places, with the boss we go in and have a good laugh and just get so relaxed now and have a good time and do get toys etc. It has helped me just one day hopefully will end up as a full relationship.

The more you are concerned about it - the worse it will be - as pav says you need to be completely relaxed in order to get a flicker. Neither Viagra nor eg a vacuum pump will work without the 'desire' part being there to begin with.

Your first priority for the future is not your ED which although it's mentally extremely upsetting, won't kill you or cause complications - especially if the ED is caused by nerve damage caused by poorly controlled blood glucose - so it's getting your BG sorted out and managing it so it stays sorted. Damaged nerves can heal but it takes time!

Have you been on a carb counting/dose adjustment course? Have you sought help from your Diabetes clinic?

I've done the course I'm going to be more strict with my carb counting as I feel in have lapsed. I've asked for help with the diabetic Dr but he wasn't much help. My GP was just as helpful feel like I'm just hitting a brick wall every time I ask a professional for help.
