Well at 10am today I shall be seeing the endocrinologist.
I have my piece of paper with all about what has been happening to me and also the questions I want answers to.

I am just dreading coming home none the wiser!:(

Must think positive.🙂

Hi Lucy,
If you don't understand anything that is said to you or the question hasn't been answered then stick to it and and ask the question again 🙂 Take pen and write down answers as you go along. The same if you disagree with something say so, Consultant wont mind.
Just remember Endo's are not Gods, even though some suffer from tgs (Tin God Syndrome)

You will be fine. Good luck

Sue

Good luck, I hope it goes well for you and you get some good answers.

Thank you Sue and Caroline.
Does anyone know if an endocrinologist is the same as a diabetic consultant - just realised I haven't a clue what one is!!

A consultant at a diabetic clinic could be an endocrinologist or could be a diabetologist. A diabetologist would be more focused on diabetes where as an endocrinologist would look at all aspects of the endocrine system of which the diabetes aspect only forms part.

Good luck - could anyone go with you - to take notes etc and to help you remember what is being said. Sometimes you can be so intent on getting there and asking stuff that your brain doesn't take it in.

Good luck Lucy. I hope you get the answers you need xxx

Just a suggestion and will only work if consultant agrees, take a tape recorder and tape the session...

Hi - I am back and am being admitted to hospital for a week, defintiely within the next 2 weeks!!
They know exactly what the issue is. Was so impressed had tests done and lot results back immediately.

Apparently the conditon is quite serious if left undiagnosed - I will be telling this to the nurse who kept saying I wasn;t having hypo's. I have to admit though he did say it was very difficult to diagnose for a gp

Apparently my glucose control is bad in the morning and mid day due to not enough insulin, hence why my fasting and lunch time figures have been high but I have a condition where by the end of the day or after exercise my pancreas goes mad and spurts out far too much - and this causes my bg to drop to hypo level.

I am so sorry but i cannot remember what the condition is caused. I remember hearing insulin resistance but there was other stuff as well such as insulinoma?

The outcome is it isn;t in my mind after all. Also it greatly affectlys weight and stops weight loss and i have been assured that the weigth will come off once I am sorted.Yeah!!

I do know i am going to be starved for 72 hrs too. I am also being scanned head to pelvis and on examination my liver is inflamed too.

The bad thing is I do have to go on metformin or other meds which they will put me on whilst in hospital.

I came home and cried - but cried with relief that things will be sorted soon and I will feel better when the weight comes off and my sugars stabilise too. I also cried because I really feel my pancreas is letting me down!

I will let you all know how i get on and what the condition is called - can't believe i can't remember but there was so much to take in.

Hi Lucy,
Glad it was a good apt, and now you know it's not your imagination.
Very pleased you will be sorted soon as well.
Good luck 🙂

Lucy - you must be relieved that this is going to be sorted. In a funny way you are fortunate that your GP had seen you experience the hypos and knew you hadn't made them up.

I guess they are saying you are diabetic - but with an insulinnoma - which will be what is throwing insulin out at certain times of day. There was an episode of either casualty or Holby City were someone had a insulinoma.

The good thing is that they are going to sort you out.

Good luck with it all

so pleased that you have at last got a diagnosis..... well done for sticking to your guns and making sure you got to see the endocrinologist. hopefully all will be well when you've had your stay in hospital and they sort out your meds too 🙂

I know this sounds really silly but why the heck am I a useless mess and can't stop balling my eyes out! Come on pull yourself together woman!
Thanks for your support everyone - its been a day and half already!

I'm not surprised you feel the way you do, it is good that you now know what is wrong with you though and that something will be done about it very soon. Good luck with your hospital stay, hope all goes well and you will soon be feeling much better.

Hi Lucy, so glad they know what is causing the problem and better now that they can sort you out. Have a good cry - it is the release of the not knowing and now knowing things can be sorted.

Best of luck with your stay in hospital, I will be think bout you. Take care & Lots of love

I'm so pleased you are finally getting sorted out Lucy 🙂 I have to see one of these guys in 2 weeks, something to do with my thyroid, lets hope mine gets me sorted out too 🙄

Lucy - so sorry to read all you have/are going through.

I look forward to reading more of your progress and I hope your hospital stay goes well

Keep well

God bless

Thank you everyone. The tears have gone now and am just looking forward to going in and getting it all sorted now, so I can feel much better going forward.

Hi lucy - I expect tears are a mixture of relief and frustration at your experiences! Glad you are already feeling a bit more positive. Use the stay in hospital as a well-earned rest - take lots of nice mags or books and have a good rest while you're there!
