How many carbs would you say are in this? On the sandwich was cheese and a bit of pickle20210424_142122.jpg

Well @Peely66 I had to guess because it was in a cafe where I live in Filey so I guessed at 36g of carbs - what would you have said?

Looks like a lot of bread but it's a bit difficult to tell from the photo. I'd have gone a bit higher maybe 50g with the pickle too. I tend to round things up if I'm guesstimating as I have a rough idea about 10g but...6g?

I don't think you were too far out in your guess, it didn't look like a huge roll but hard to tell. If you look in your Carbs and Cals at the pictures of various rolls, and have them in your mind's eye so you can compare the size. The pickle is probably about 4g carb and negligible for the cheese.

What happened to your blood sugars afterwards? If you went up and didn’t come down again then you guessed too low. If you went hypo you guessed too high. If they came back to roughly where they started then your guess was about right.

Sometimes you have no choice but to just go for it and guess - and then use it as a learning curve if you don’t get it right. You have to enjoy yourself sometimes and can’t get it right all the time. Enjoy eating out occasionally, and the more you do it the better you’ll get at guessing, you’ll gradually get used to how much things are without having to look it up all the time.

14:16pm when food was in front of me 7.4 - finger prick
16:05pm - libre scan 10.7
16:49pm - libre scan 11.9
19:29pm - libre scan 7.3

Since Humalog has a long tail (lasted 5 hours easily for me when I was on it) and you were back at your starting BG 5 hours later, I’d say your guess was spot on. I had 35g in my head when I saw your first post Well done!

Maybe take a look in a supermarket at various rolls in packets (or prepacked filled rolls), which have carb values per roll marked, to try to build up a visual picture of various sized rolls and how many carbs they are?

In this situation I wouldn’t have typed cheese and pickle roll into the carbs and cals app, because I know cheese doesn’t have carbs, I would have just typed in bread roll, or ciabatta if it was one of that type. I think you would have found it in the app then.
