Hi everyone,
In order to get my Hb1ac down I have started eating to my blood meter, for example if I am above 9 then I wont eat. Is this something everyone does or have I got myself into a silly habit over the last few weeks?

As you are on insulin then the simple solution is to add a correction to your bolus, can't see any point in starving 😱

Personally I wouldn't avoid eating as this is what your insulin is for, so I'd eat as normal but if high enough take an extra bit of insulin to take me into range x

I check blood, add carbs and bolus the amount the meter quotes. I don't not eat as I have a busy life and caring responsibilities and couldn't function if I don't eat. Also, surely not eating is not healthy?

Pumper Sue is probably right but when i wake up a 9 on a morning i dont have anything to eat until lunch otherwise im always playing catch up, im on fixed doses so i carnt move doses

I have to say I did go through a period where if I was high I didn't want to eat but I always did as its a vicious circle to get into x

Simon you need to insist you are shown how to carb count and adjust your insulin. Life will be so much easier for you.

Have you asked your clinicians about a carb counting course? It will help with your control and be more flexible 🙂

Well that isn't completely true if you were on MDI rather than mixed it would pretty much be the same as us x

Loll id never be like you you talk funny im going to ask see what they think

Oh i feel a bit bad asking im all ready on taking therapy, alcohol course if i go on any more you lot will have to pay for your test strips loll i will have soaked up the budget but im feeling great

I bought the book Carbs and Cals and taught my as I too (T2) was refused a carb counting course

Nicola, the only time I don't eat is when I'm above 18 (it happens). But if I'm a bit high, the meal is perfect for doing a correction dose without risking a hypo
