Quite a few times over the years I have had my ears syringed (wax build up). Recently I would self-treat with ear-drops. I suspect now that I should get this done via the docs as some of the ear-drops are not suitable for people diagnosed with diabetes..... I ponder with thought........

My Dr told me yesterday to just put a few drops of olive oil in each ear, softens the wax which will then wash out in the normal course of events.

As I was suffering problems with vertigo at the time, I have delayed trying it.

Thanks for that, I will give it a go

I always use alittle olive oil. It has the doble effect for me of softening any build up of wax and treating any dry skin I have in my ears. If you are worried it is always wise to see your doctor.

I've used the olive oil solution in the past myself, with good results. It works best if you warm it very slightly first, 5 seconds in the microwave is plenty.

How are your ears now? Have you tried the olive oil or seen the doc? Hope they are OK.

My OH suffers from build up of earwax - our GP will not syringe until he has used drops for a week or so to soften it. They don't like to keep syringing as it can damage the ear drum - this happened to his grandmother who became deaf and his Mum is very hard if hearing (won't use hearing aid though🙄)

Why would some drops not be suitable for diabetics? (just out if curiosity in case K starts to show signs of inheriting this from her Dad?)

I am not too sure, it's because I am sure some time ago I read one of them and it had some caution if you had diabetes. I will look at them later today when I go out again though, just in case I was mistaken.

I think sometimes the warning is just cautionary, but I would agree you can't be too carefull with ears. I hate it when mine get gummed up and I can't hear properly.
