For the past few mornings I have woken up between 5.30-6am with my blood level at 3. I don't know why this is and I have reduced my basal by 2 units but it is still happening. Any ideas? I had supper last night because my blood was 5.5 and still woke at 3.1 this morning at 5.30. Today my head feels really fuzzy and I had to leave a meeting early this morning to nap for a while, something I have never done. I'm back at work now but just feel drained.

Sounds to me like further basal reductions are required @newbs. This can happen - you think you must have reduced it sufficiently, but it's still too much! 😱 I'd recommend setting your alarm for 2 or 3am so you can check where your levels are in the middle of the night and have a preemptive snack if necessary. This is where a Libre sensor can come in really useful to show you what is happening from dusk to dawn 🙂

Night hypos can be particularly draining, as you may actually be dropping lower than those waking levels. How long before bedtime are you having your last novorapid injections? There can still be some active up to 7 hours later, as I found when I had night hypos - even though I don't use basal insulin at all - so your levels might still be falling after your bedtime reading.

Yup I agree with Northie, looks like more basal reductions needed and some overnight alarms would be a good precaution.

I’m not sure if it’s just me, but sometimes when my doses are on the move I seem to have to reduce/increase by ‘too much’ then I get a day or two of expected behaviour before I have to take it back a notch and it finally settles for a bit.

A little bit like the old animation technique: https://www.everydayupsanddowns.co.uk/2014/04/getting-animated.html

Thank you both for your replies. I reduced my basal by a further 2 units and things seemed to settle with my levels around 5-6 during the night for 3 nights, last night I awoke at 2.30 to a 2.8! o_O My level was 9 before bed too. I inject my Novorapid around 5 hours before bed.
