The 8 week blood sugar diet by Dr Michael Moseley makes for interesting reading on this very subject. I'm only half way through the book and he references research on low carb higher fat diet. Might be worth checking it out.
 
I'm astonished at how much carb other people eat.

OK I'm a 5ft 4ins female, but I have never as an adult eaten more than c 100g a day.

Or rather - actually I have - and put on 3 stone. 11stone 3lbs and fast getting too fat for my size 16 clothes. So I stopped ! and after a bit resumed wearing size 12s again. In 14s at the mo so need to cut down a bit on the between meal sweet c**p - move my mouth less and my legs more !! LOL

I have NEVER 'low carbed'.
