Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
The last 18 months I have been getting a dry mouth and tickly throat especially in the evenings. I drink plenty of water and take sugar free mints every so often but nothing seems to have worked. I was wondering if this is down to my type 2 diabetes or could it be something else?

Hi jeanus, nice to hear from you 🙂 Sorry to hear about the problems. Are you on any medications, like blood pressure meds or statins? I remember that a tickly throat was one of the side-effects of BP meds I was once on (ramipril). Since it's been goin on for so long, I'd definitely have a word with your doctor about it, if you haven't already. What are your blood sugar levels like generally?

Yes I'm on Ramipril and Metformin..also taking Simvastatin. My blood sugar levels are ok as far as I know. I dont check them very often because I cant afford to buy the strips. My doctor wont supply them and says I dont need them if I'm type 2!

Is this an every night cough, a most night cough or an occasional cough. I would agree with Northerner if its there most of the time see your GP.

Its every evening when its quite bad..feels like I got a lot of phlegm in my throat. When I go to bed its stops as I drop off to sleep!

I frequently get a tickly throat too (over a couple of years now) and also take Simvastatin - had never thought of linking the two before but definitely worth looking in to. Will ask GP when I see him next. Hope you manage to sort yours out soon.

I would say to anyone with a persistent cough go and see the doctor. I keep getting a cough and keep going back to the doctor. I'm sure half the time he gives me stuff to keep me quiet for a few weeks, but I keep going back.
