Hello All,

Tonight I'm off out with some friends for a few drinks. I'd like some suggestions as to what to do with my levemir dose in the evening. I was think that instead of 32 units I would take 30. I'd do this as to metabolise alcohol the liver uses up carbs from it's stores of glycogen lowering my blood sugar.

Thanks,

Tom H

are you refering to a heavy session or just a few beers?

I dont adjust mine at all, but tend to rarely go overboard with my drinking. But I drink slimline gin and tonic and it doesnt throw me too bad. I have little experience of pints!

I'm not going in for a heavy immersion as doubtless some of my friends will. I've got to be sober enough to find a taxi to get me back home! Basically about 4 pints really is all I'll be drinking.

Hi Tom,

If I'm having a few drinks (about 4 is my limit too, these days!), I'd reduce my lantus by 10%, or as near to that as I could make it - currently on 17 lantus, so would reduce by 2 units. Also, make sure you have a glass of water and a snack before bed. I have a bottle of water handy in case I wake up in the night, as it helps to keep me hydrated until the morning.

I also reduce my bolus insulin with my evening meal before going out, again by 10%.

Enjoy your evening!🙂

Thanks Northerner, much appreciated. I'll probably stop by somewhere I can get some food on the way back. Definitely not a kebab though 🙂 I'll bear all of that in mind.

Once again, thank you,

Tom H

Hiya
I've had some heavy drinking sessions in the past and i have never changed my levemir dosage. to be honest i've never thought of it. the way i see it though is that your evening dose is to set you up for the next day so you want things to be as normal as possible to recover from any form of hangover.
it does help me though to have a good meal before i start drinking. have something to eat before bed and lots of water before bed and through the night (water is more for the headache in the morning).
Hope that helps!

Thanks for the advice everyone. Much appreciated. Had a good night! No hangover!!! :D
