To be honest, I'm type 2 and I like a good drink once a week.
I've had no real problems now I've settled into being diabetic, but a lot of alcoholic drinks have no laballing on, which is criminal, so through trial and error I'd advise you avoid all types of cider, and liquers (Baileys), as well as bourbon whiskeys. I'm ok drinking beer as long as i have a good meal beforehand. It's also a good idea to have the odd pint of diet coke every 4-5 pints, and a few bags of crisps during the night.
One good side effect of metformin is the lack of hangovers with it!
