Dreaded Colonoscopy

I've just had a call to say that I am now having the procedure done at my local hospital (5 min drive), phew!! Same time but at least I don't have to endure the car journey. My prep is Moviprep and not picolax this time, sure effects will be the same though.

I had moviprep last time, it's okay

My one experience of a colonoscopy was as a private patient (I was still married at the time and my husband had private health insurance through work). The "prep" was done 30 minutes before the procedure. The nurse inserted some kind of pessary and told me to hang on as long as possible before going to the loo - I lasted about 45 seconds before having to dash in there. Sorry to gross people out, but this method certainly cleared everything out, and shortly after that I had the actual colonoscopy. So what I'm wondering is why the NHS makes people go through unpleasant long-winded preparation with slow-acting laxatives etc, when there is a much more effective and efficient drug that could be used? Presumably it comes down to cost.

Hope you can find a good solution Newbs, it's not a pleasant procedure to look forward to. xx
I've had that prep on the NHS as well. Depends on what they're looking for. It's nothing to do with cost. And if you ever had Picolax, you would not describe it as a slow acting laxative. Both preps are dirt cheap.

It'll all be over in a flash Newbs, try not to tense up because that makes it more difficult I'm told. I remember the first time I had one the nurse kept telling me to relax, hmm thought I, you try relaxing when someone showing something up your backside, call me weird but I didn't find that a relaxing activity 🙄. That said though, I did some relaxation exercises the second time and it was much easier, so I grudgingly accepted she was right. Hope it goes well x

Don't have any experience with this News, but wanted to wish you the very best of luck. Great that you're getting it done .... These things are so important !

Good grief, Susan, did they replumb you the wrong way when they stole your insides?
