I had my clinic today, and my BS averages are up, so he has increased my meds from,

2 Gliclazide 80mg once a day to 2 twice a day, and also increased my

500mg metformin SR once a day to 2 a day.

He did not mention my diet so will the meds in itself decrease my BS levels or will I need to change my diet even further?

My Cholesterol level is 5.2 which appears to be average for "normal" people, and is static, and that's without taking the Simvastatin I was told to take

any advice as always gratefully received 🙂

unfortunately the dreaded D is progressive in some of us.

What are your diet and activiy levels like? They do make a difference.

Without knowing what you eat, its hard to comment if you need to change your diet.

What I would do is monitor your BS levels closely thoughout the day, to see what effect the additional gliclazide will have on you as it can be quite dramatic (was with me). I ended up increasing the gliclazide in 2 stages at first 1 1/2 tablets up from 1 in the morning. Then after a few days increased it to the 2 a day.

My metformin was reduced from 6 500mg tablets a day to 4 a day, the latest recommended max of metformin to take.

Well the Gliclazide should help - after all it's to encourage your pancreas to make more insulin. On the other hand I'm not positive that's a hugely good idea in the long term, I mean if it has to work harder, won't it wear out quicker?

Nobody has been on em for a very long time yet have they? aren't they a relatively recent invention? (say in comparison to Metformin?)

thanks all, my diet has been a bit bad I admit, so back on a D diet and hoping things will level out, of course day 2 back on the wagon so to speak, I forget one of my pills, I am my own worst enemy 😛
