I start my new regime tomorrow i am started from a standing start again, just wondering about doses the background one first thing is 24 unit, the rapid one 4 lunch time, and 6 evening i know its a silly question but are these high doses just a little concerned they might be high and need to be prepared.

Those seem very like type 1 or LADA doses to me Simon - so it doesn’t look like you’ve got much insulin resistance.

I have seen forum members with doses in excess of 100u - but in general my understanding is that comparing one person to another is not very meaningful as ‘you need what you need’.

Thanks i know it was a stupid questions everyone is different, i was just fishing as im a little nervous i trusted the mixed insulin and it was predictable just have to bite the bullett and see

When I was diagnosed I was on 20 lantus and 45 novorapid a day 🙂 People can vary hugely. Your doses will presumbably have been decided based on the amount of mixed you were using. You'll soon get the hang of it! 🙂

The only comparison to consider, @Ingressus, is how the new daily total of insulin compares to your previous daily total. Often when changing insulin regimes, total doses are slightly lower and raised if needed, to lessen chances of hypos during changeover period.

Your right was on 48 units total and new regimes 34 is it stronger or just more flexible

Basal bolus regime gives far better flexibility than bimodal insulin. You can miss meals, have larger or smaller meals, adjust for exercise, infections etc. Main thing is you can adjust insulin to life, rather than having to fit life to insulin. So, strength is same, but you're in changeover period, so that's why you've been started on lower overall total.

Carb counting is you're friend, now you're one of us 😉

I was also told not to carb count
