Dont look down on air shot

Im fairly new to insulin so just thought i would share a couple of mistakes, when doing an air shot dont look over it as i did, hit me in the forehead i smelt like a clinic for days, also always dont forget to take it out of the fridge i guarantee this causes brain freeze

We live and learn by our mistakes Ingressus - sorry you learned the hard way but I doubt you will do that again in a hurry!!!

Took me a long time (pre diabetes days) to understand what the horrible smell was in hospitals - insulin!!!!

My dog doesn't like it, for sure. I get real dirty looks if an air shot is within dog range - or standing underneath me in the kitchen.

Not having much sense of smell has its plus points never noticed Insulin has a smell.

I don't notice the pong as much these days, but when I first started injecting it made me wretch 😱. Why can't they make it smell like fresh roses, or seawater, or nothing at all.

OH reckons new cartridges smell worse, he sometimes comes in, wrinkles his nose, and asks, 'Have you just started a new cartridge?' It's probably because I do more air shots at the beginning, to make sure it's working properly, but I haven't disillusioned him yet.

Why does every different insulin, animal, vegetable (don't think there is one LOL) or mineral - all pong exactly the same?

The smell in hospitals was also in Drs surgeries when I was younger and was actually the smell when you mix surgical spirit with water - and still is, except neither hospital nor surgeries use it to sterilise stuff now - hardly anyone is allowed to use an autoclave now so they have to have disposable everything. Health and Safety doncha know ......

I think my Levemir smells much worse than my Novorapid. Not sure whether I'm just imagining things..

Having worked in first a Pharmacy and then in Hospitals, for over 40 years I never noticed a universal smell, even when I had a better sense of smell.

I remember the smell of insulin from going round my nans house at weekends when I was a kid. My nan was type 1 and her bathroom always had a strange smell and that's where she used to inject.

My cats move sharpish when I get my insulin pen out lol! I think it smells gross!
