Perhaps that’s why I’ve been needing a couple of units more fir quite a while 🙄.

Conundrum do I keep on using it or not as I really hate to waste insulin.

Oops! I'm the same as Northie and I'd bin it, I hate waste too but I had to return a full box of cartridges to the chemist at the beginning of the year as someone had pushed the box up against the back of the fridge and I had to peel it off 😱 xx

Thanks it’s ditched.

I've used insulin a year past it's expirer date with no ill effects. I came to the conclusion the insulin couldn't read the label.

Honestly - is it worth it - yes medicines are precious, so is food - so is life itself.
I fully intend to live past my sell by date - three score and ten - I but although I do eat food a little beyond the recommended use by date it is because I know it is normally worst case scenario - but essential medication - a few days, yes - but months? I'd really advise against it.
I'm no expert on insulin, but my speciality was storage of time/temperature sensitive foodstuffs.

I know with foods if it's after the use by date you should ditch it or you risk food poisoning, whereas if it's after the best before date you can probably get away with eating it, at least for a few days/weeks/months (depending on what it is - you do have to use a bit of common sense). You can even sell food past its best before date at a reduced price if you put up a notice which says clearly that it is past that date. But the expiry date on meds I'd assume is more like a "use by" date and err on the side of caution.

🙂:D
Ive ditched it just in case it suddenly became less effective.
As for foods, I am a bit elastic on use by and best before dates.

Can I add to your 'DOH' please? Yesterday afternoon and evening I couldn't understand why my levels had shot up and weren't coming down. I decided to check my pen to confirm what dose I had given myself, and the dose displayed was....my breakfast dose! 😱 It took me a while to believe it, but it was true - I had dutifully recorded my insulin dose both on my scanner and in my book for both lunch and evening meal, but had then totally failed to inject anything! 😱 🙄 Once, yes, but TWICE in one day? Doh! 😱 😳😳😳

Sorry Northener but I am now sitting here p ing myself with laughter. It is easy done.

Done the same on occasions even with my pump.
Entered carbs, it calculates Bolus, then asks me to confirm!
Just missed the last step.
Doh

Well this morning and early afternoon I forgot I was diabetic .
Break fast.
I wasn’t hungry so bolus not required, also no coffee , just water till my snack, which I don’t usually have unless I am hungry

Snack.
Feeling a bit peckish at 4pm I had coffee with cream and two ginger nuts, there was something I needed to do but I never even gave it a thought 🙄

Dinner .
Was 7.9 which s a tad high for me , so I checked my pens as I hadn’t eaten very much at all
No bolus and no Basal 😱,which I only have in the mornings.
According to my graph up until the gingernuts kicked in , when it rose sharply, I was in the low 5s with with my Libre line making a fine attempt at a flatfish.
Normal service will be resumed tomorrow....... I hope lol

Ooops!

it’s why those pens which record doses are so handy.

I did this all the time on MDI until I got a pen with a screen on it. It’s so automatic, that it can be impossible to be sure. Then you risk no dose, or (as I sometimes ended up with...) a double dose. 😱
