Hi when I first got diagnosed with diabetes I had the most severe back pain to the right side for months, its calmed down but it comes back every so often, especially when I lie down in bed trying to get to sleep.

I have had ultarsounds and checks by doctors etc and no one knows why I get the pain, as its not kidney stones. The pain doesnt happen at menstrul time.

Does anyone else get this, any idea what it could be?

Thanks Lizzie xx

I occasionally get back in my back around the kidney area but tend to put it down to muscle strain rather than anything internal.

As I have lost weight though, the number of times it reoccurs has diminished.

Perhaps it is just muscular pain for you too?

Andy 🙂

Before I was diagnosed I use to get a pain on my right hand side (rather than my back)just under my breast. But since my BG level have reduced I no longer get it.

If you BG is high then it could be your kidneys protesting...

Before going on the pump, I would get aches in the kidney area if my BG became high... It seems that your medical team has done throughly checked your kidneys out... But if you still worreid then have another word with them

I get it when my tummy is a bit out all down one side. It feels like muscular pain and then I spend ages in and out of the loo. It mainly happens when my levels are running a bit on the high side.

I've had pain in the kidney area when my numbers were high too. It was especially bad in the weeks before I was diagnosed and has been back from time to time since.

I agree with Ellie , sometimes before i even test my blood i know if its high from having a pain in this area

Hi Lizzie.

When your BG is high, you will dehydrate at quite a fast rate and, if you're not drinking a lot to keep yourself hydrated, then your kidneys may well be aching a bit.

I'm not sure if ketones have a noticeable effect on your kidneys as well, especially if you've run high for some time.
