Does anyone change their basal with the clock changes?

It completely passed me by for the third year in a row that my basal will now be lasting 25 hours instead of 24 - does anyone bother adjusting basal insulin with the clock changes? What happens on a pump, do you give yourselves an extra hour on one of your basal settings?

LOL, yes you do Northerner - you put the pump back an hour and it then delivers again, whatever it delivered in the previous hour in any event.

So I changed mine this morning when I got up which was 9am as far as the pump knew. I put it back to 8am and it therefore automatically carried on delivering whatever my basal rate was set at, at 08.00 hrs.

And no - I never ever even thought about it on MDI - if I had the extra hour in bed and was then a touch high when I did get up - I'd just correct that with fast-acting as per normal.

Being on a split dose, I just let the extra hour go by. When I was on twice a day I used to elaborate half hour adjustments over 2 days but don't bother these days. There's so many other variables and I've never been very strict about what time I inject the basal. When it was 'before bed' it could be as early as 10.30 if I was really tired or as late as 1am if I forgot to do it when I was sitting up late. Not a very good example to set but I'm still alive 🙄

It did mess with my head a bit since its the first time since Ben's been on a pump - he's on quite a few different basal rates and different bolus ratios so it took a bit of thought to decide the best time to change it. After a rubbish few days however his bloods have been perfect so far today so all good!

My basal timing is completely out today. I slept in until 11am old time - I have never ever slept in that late before....and I went to sleep at 9pm I just did my basal when I got up and so far everything has been ok apart from it going up a bit when I got up

No don't bother about this at all, likewise when the clocks go forward.

Yes my pump delivers an extra hour at 0.025u/hour. Pumpers are meant to change their pumps last thing at night due to it being normally being a person's lowest basal setting thus no hypo.
We can if we want, do the maths and work out what we are going to miss or gain in that hour and adjust with a temp basal.

I do - I have a split dose and I try to move by either a quarter or half hour till I get to where I should be.

Snap, I'm exactly the same as you and my readings have been spot on today, 4.2. 4.5. 5.3, I wonder if we could always have a 25 hours in a day lol 😉 Sheena

There might be something in that - my levels have been 5.4, 4.9, 5.5! 🙂 Perhaps if all the diabetics jump up and down at the same time we can knock the Earth slightly out of orbit so it takes 25 hours to go round the Sun?

Now that's something worth looking into, I like that idea, maybe that young scientist Brain? or the presenters on The Big Bang Theory would help 😉 Sheena

Les has a split dose, so last night took it slightly earlier than normal (15 minutes) then had his this morning at his usual time...

But he's had quite a nasty hypo this afternoon..

Me well has I being running behind by an hour all summer, I didn't do anything with my pump..

But I must say, today been quite a iffy day, with several hypos, so will give it a day or two see if it settles then if needs be do some basal testing
