Relationship to Diabetes

Hi All

I have a seven year old son who has been diabetic type since the age of three.

Over the past year whilst at his mum's, she has missed correction doses, failed to test after meals and on some occasions over 14 hours with no tests at all.

I have all the logs from diasend and the manual food diary dating back over the last few years.

I am currently taking the matter back to the courts for full custody

I am seeking a diabetic specialist doctor to review the reading and give me a professional opinion.

Could anyone recommend a specialist or indeed offer any advice to help my cause

Hi Kevin, you need to contact your son's diabetes specialist nurse and your son's consultant. Obviously if he hasn't been attending apts then that's in your favour as well.

Hi Sue mant thanks for your response, I have raised issues with the nurses several times, but his mother never changes,, the nurses do not want to get involved with the fall outs etc

Those nurses owe your son a duty of care as does his consultant.

Welcome to the forum, Kevin Leach. As this is a legal matter, you might want to change your user name to something less obvious. Please ask @Northerner if you wish to change.
I would contact your solicitor to check exactly what sort of evidence is required to be prevented in a family court of law. Otherwise, you might get reports that are not admissible.

Kevin - I have huge sympathy with your task - we've had a few custody battles in the family with some of our grandchildren and one great grandchild for various very good reasons at the time.

It is - legally - even more complicated in your case with your son's medical problems. If you aren't legally his 'guardian' and you aren't, then really the hospital (or GP or school) should not be giving you and info - difficult position for them to be in so don't get upset by their apparent lack of care.

Were I you - then I would start by asking the Diabetes UK Help Line for advice.
