Doctor refuses to give me a testing kit?

They do ask if you are on insulin, but I don't think it affects your success. You can select the meter you'd like from a list 🙂 Go for it!

Once you have a meter you should register it on the manufacturers web site, then when you need a new one or want to upgrade you will be able to choose from a list of meters that you can get for free. That's what I did when I wanted to upgrade my accu-chek meter.
