After a really bad year i managed to get appointment with the doc she has referred me back to the diabetes clinic and the weight managment program at the leisure center, she has also referred me to the diabetics dietition clinic not heard of this one before so if anyone has had experience of this any info would be great.

I'm glad that your doc has referred you to people who can advise and support, it's horrible when you are struggling and getting nowhere fast. I've seen a dietition a few times but not at an official "clinic" I just saw the hospital dietition. The diet we are supposed to follow is pretty much what everybody else is supposed to eat so I should think it is just someone who is linked in to the Diabetic Team. All the best with all your appointments, let us know how you get on.

My first dietician appts were at the hospital and turned out to be a "general" one and not specific so got all the eat carbs advice.

When I had to move onto insulin having exhausted all oral medication in 15 months I was referred to a diabetes dietician. She turned out to be the same lady who had run the training course for type 2s that I had attended only 3 months previously, plus she also runs the type 1 courses. This was great cos she knew my knowledge base and so could take me through all the relevant bits of a type 1 course. I have had 3 sessions in all and the only advice I can give is to take a big list of questions. She wanted to know what worried me and tailored each session around that and made notes on my file of what else needed to be covered in the future. My final session covered exactly what alcohol does (and why) and how fatty meals affect you.

My OH came to the first one and she invited him in and asked what worried him about my diabetes. That's when I found out he was petrified of waking in the night and finding me in a coma!!

Hope you get a lot out of it - it really seems you are getting the support now that you need. Do ask everyone you see about the training programme for type 2s if you haven't already been on one. I know it is ridiculous that us type 2s injecting cannot go on the one for type 1s. Just hope your dietician is a good as mine.
