I saw this question on diabetes UK facebook page a while ago... sometimes i'm skeptical whether or not I do. I have more trust in my own weird theories!

and to top it off found out today on my GP notes is 'Diabetes Resolved', thats not possible! A doctor should know that at the most. What else would explain my lack of 30% (ish) of pancreas function!!?

So, out of curiosity do you trust your doctor? Endo or GP? Even nurses?

I used to not trust my doctor he was a joke until I changed docs a year or so ago and it was the best thing I ever did, luckily im now happy with my Doctor nurse and DSN,especially my nurse she is the best.So yeah I would say I have full trust in my team now.

Hi my doctor is pretty good and on the ball. Margaret, my Diabetes nurse is very good and always has time for me. So all in all, I think I'm one of the more luckier ones. Sheena

Changed my GP 10 years ago and found one who would take the time to listen and not write a prescription then open the door for you🙂

Rubbish 'specialist' GP and don't know why I didn't complain earlier!

At last I am with a different Diabetes Specialist Clinic, who I did a wonderful course with, and the nurse and dietician there are fantastic. I think the consultant might still have some issues with some of the stuff we discuss on here, but I think she'd at least be up to the level of dialogue, wheras my GP just did not understand what was going on - sad.

No...

He gave me my flu jab the other day (unexpectedly) and it hurt waaaay more than it did when the nurse did it the previous time and still hurts even now!! Oh and he isnt upping my test strip quantities either so he is not in my good books right now!

I have no faith in my doctor, it took someone else to tell him to check me for diabetes, and more recently I have been going backwardds and forwards with another problem and all I get is a box of pills or told to take time off work. My employer is good, but there is a limit to the ammount of time I can take off sick.

I like our GP, even though he didn't think I'd have an underactive thyroid. Result came back positive.

He diagnosed Carol's Diabetes quick smart though. And I haven't had any problems with the practice not prescribing what I ask for.

D_G - that's just unbelievable, I thought your DSN was going to have a word with your GP about your strips???

Not on your Nelly! I check everything they tell me and ask endless questions about anything they want to prescribe. I wouldn't trust any medical person or take anything they say as gospel.

I know my experience of the medical profession has been universally awful throughout my life and has generated a level of distrust that verges on obsession with me, but I think it is advisable for everyone to ask questions of their doctors to be sure they understand the reasoning behind a particular treatment, rather than taking everything on trust.

yes i would trust him with my life hes my rock sees me twice a week to give me my insulin. has done for about 4 years now. he has saved my life and when things were really bad and i turned up in psychosis to a appointment once he got me into our local psychiatric ward just like that. mind you i have still not forgiven him for one day when i went in told him i was drinking lots bs hi and he stopped me in my tracks by saying you need an ambulance now you smell of acetone. he would not let me go home. Hes always willing to discuss my treatment diabetes or mental health wise, open to ideas
Im so lucky in having him

Your doctor is wonderful and I wish he was mine too. Lasttime I saw the (several bad words) he couldn't even look up from his paper work to indicate he had heard me.

I have a marvellous G.P. He goes out of his way to ensure that he explains everything, listens to what I have to say and takes an interest in my treatment for diabetes and any other problem that I present with. If he doesn't know the answer then he says so and makes a referral me to somebody who does.

I only saw a GP twice (I won't say mine, I see one from the team and rarely the one on my medical card). Once when I went in complaining about not being able to shift a chest infection and asked him to check my blood sugars as I had a family history, and the second time for the follow up consultation.

After that I've been in the care of the practise RGN who specialised in diabetes (amongst other things). I wouldn't complain about her as it seems she has an open mind.

It's probably unlikely that I'll see the GP again for a number of years now.

I'd trust them to be professional and I'd listen to any advice they offered. I haven't had to challenge the nurse on anything yet.

No. My old GP was great, really listened and knew what he was talking about. Unfortunately he retired just over a year ago and I have no faith in my new GP whatsoever. Has got so many things, with so many people, wrong. Never see the same consultant twice though so no trust there either.
I do trust my DSN though, she is brilliant, thankfully!

Don't speak to my GP anymore. He's awful. I go straight to my DSN who is excellent...............and very pretty😉

My GP is ok. He's been pretty good in the last couple of years but can come over as a bit condescending. He's been very helpful since my stroke. If he were suddenly advising something new I'd do my homework first. When I went to him with a high temperature and flu like symptoms whilst on statins he said that could not possibly be linked to the statin. Luckily I had the patient info leaflet with me and quickly pointed out to him just how wrong he was. So it's 50/50 with me, sometimes he's on the ball and sometimes not.

Ditto that!!! Tony's Doctor is hopeless, just a pill pusher, he saw a new, younger Doctor recently for his Sciatica, she sent him for a scan, hopefully he'll get some answers now

I hope so! This is the problem when I hear the politicians talking about how the GPs are the best people to commision services, because 'they are the ones who know their patients best' - in many cases it seems the doctors don't have a clue about their patients' needs! 😱 They are always spoken about as if they were all equally good at their jobs, which unfortunately is very far from the truth. I'm pretty sure if everyone had a GP as good as mine this forum would only have half the posts it gets!
