If so, we’d love you to take part in our study. We are a team of researchers at St Marys University exploring whether Pulsed Electromagnetic Frequency (PEMF) devices can improve outcomes associated with Type 2 Diabetes.

PEMF devices emit five types of energies that are believed to replicate the energy frequencies that are present in nature. Modern living is believed to disrupt these natural energies and the devices are designed to have a balancing effect on the body. As a result there is a belief that such devices can promote wellbeing and could improve outcomes of type 2 diabetes.

If you are interested in taking part click on the following link for more information

If you have any further questions please contact us at anne.majumdar@stmarys.ac.uk or charlotte.foster-brown@stmarys.ac.uk

What sort energy is it omitting? What are the 5 types?

I'd have thought that there was a near infinite variety of energetic frequencies in nature. Plants and nature in general have a variety of mechanical vibration, they also absorb and reflect electromagnetic radiation across a wide spectrum. What, exactly, are you referring to?

This sounds a little 'woo woo' to me!! But I must keep an open mind!! 🙂

Edit:
BlueArmy got in there just ahead of me!

Yes sorry Andy. Think the term energies is misleading - sounds like electromagnetic frequencies. Then that opens a bunch of questions. Think I need to know more before signing up athough it sounds intriguing

Yes sorry Andy. Setting aside resonant frequencies of all objects - I am assuming heat, electrical, sound, light and magnetic?

If the proposal includes Nuclear or gravitational its not for me.

It's been a long time since I did my Pure and Applied Physics degree, but heat is just another form of electromagnetic radiation as is nuclear (assuming you're talking about radiation, of which there are many varieties depending on the particles/energy involved).

But, I will keep an open mind because my knowledge retention from my university days is severely limited! However, my 'woo woo' antennae are twitching mightily. 🙂

Agreed which is why I edited the response! My
issue was with the term energies, there are only a few types of energy as you know frequencies however as you say, could be infinite.

I’m i with you, on the sceptical front but I am interested to know though what background frequencies nature produces, and what part of modern living disrupts them and to the point if I can help further knowledge by simply wearing a box for a few weeks

Booo @BlueArmy for editing your post! I loved the Radio 3 reference!! :D

Also, I wanted to point people to a book by Ben Goldacre. Namely 'Bad Science' (not that I am casting any aspersions on this study .... that is what studies are all about to determine whether something works or not). Indeed, the people working on this study would find a lot of useful information in this book about how to run an effective study. I heartily recommend it.

haha, I felt it may not be a popular comment, although witty.

I'll be more than happy to put my name down if it'll help anyone.

I suspect they do Good Science, and can already run an effective study to be fair to them.

Can the researchers confirm that this study has received ethical approval from a University Ethics committee?
We can confirm that the study has ethical approval from a University Ethics Committee. This is also a requirement for posting a study on Diabetes UK. Thank-you

Any comment on the energies that you mentioned in the initial post? Your silence on this subject is telling.

The description (and the "non-evasive" typo on the linked page) don't inspire confidence, I must admit. (But I'm generally very skeptical and this isn't intended for me anyway.)

If you need to hate it, move on.
Nothing to see here.
Spelling police get a life.
Put in a complaint to @Josh DUK for approving it, or stop the remarks?

Nope. I will continue to ask questions and will wonder why no answers are forthcoming. I consider that to be a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

I have no complaint about why this study has been allowed to post here. But I do have doubts about the basic premise underlying it. It doesn't make any scientific sense to me and I would like an explanation.

Come on chaps, no need to argue, you either go with this sort of stuff or you don't. Let them get on with it, participate if you are interested, pass it by if not. If you want to find out what is behind it then ask the researchers.

Personally, I don't understand it. The underlying premise, to find a way of treating the symptoms of T2 diabetes, seems to me to be trying to solve a problem that does not exist, except in the mind of those who know little about the subject or who are trying to find a new outlet for some kit they sell. As a general statement, symptoms of T2 are controlled by getting your blood glucose under control and there seems to be no suggestion that this kit will do that. Indeed, there would be every reason to pillory the project if it did.

My advice to the researchers would be to take great care to ensure that they have a representative participant group, and not just get a cohort of people who want it to work because they believe in these things. That might provide some positive PR for whoever is behind the project but is unlikely to make any real difference to the diabetic world.

Must declare an interest.... was recommended a Tens machine by a medical pro to treat neuropathic sensory problems. Complete waste of time, money and effort, something which came as no surprise to me.

....If you want to find out what is behind it then ask the researchers.....
That is what I am doing on a public forum. I think it is important to question people in public and make that information widely available.

They posted on a public forum, they should expect to continue to be open and up-front about things.

It seems there are many things these days which are not questioned because people want to be too polite. Well, no, I think this needs to stop. I will not ignore things which don't sit right with me and neither should you. Yes, any discourse should be polite and I think I have been whilst also indicating my suspicion about the underlying premise of the study.

Anyway, I will not "pass it by" and I am not arguing (ok, I am now! 😎 ). I would like the questions answered.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks for your interest in the study. When we give consent to researchers, who are often students, to post their studies, we ensure that their work has received ethics approval from a reputable university. The university will have already assessed for any concerns within the study that may cause harm to the participants or wider community.

The goal of research is to investigate so there may be things that are problematic from a conceptual point of view which have yet to be ironed out, that's totally fine as those issues will come out in the research, as is the goal. It's helpful for researchers to be aware of concerns that they may not have thought about addressing initially so thanks once again for highlighting them.

Participating in this research is optional and has been approved by Twickenham university so if you'd like to participate and have any questions, please feel free to address them via the email address provided above.
