Do you have an underactive thyroid?

I'd be gutted if my eyebrows went - my eyelashes get shorter and shorter though which I hate - but not significantly less of them.

Did lose the hairs on my legs (well 99% of them) but initially thought it was cos I had em waxed every 6 weeks regularly for years. If fact I still reckon it was that cos higher up the 'leg' (a-hem) blasted things multiply like rabbits. TMI - sorry! - but I've never heard anyone with thyroid trouble even when their head hair has suffered saying they lost THOSE ones .....
I have patches on my lower legs where the hair hardly grows from regular waxing too.

I had an underactive thryroid before I was diagnosed as diabetic. Never have had eyebrows really or hair on legs - but then I was blonde as a child and a pale mouse brown ever since - or rather before I went officially white and blonde from a bottle!!!.

It was only discovered when I first complained to Dr about "funny " leg feelings and they did a full blood test and only found this wrong. It wasn't til a couple of years later when still had "funny legs" that I complained again and they repeated tests and found I was diabetic. Now know that the 2 can go hand in hand! Now when I have the "full diabetes blood test" annually ( as the heading on the print-out says) it is included. HbA1C and cholesterol are done in between on their own.

I was diagnosed as part of regular blood tests at GP
Actually I returned from a week's holiday in Scillies celebrating the end of 12 months chemo and radio for breast cancer, to find a message on the phone telling me to ring the surgery urgently. Well, several messages actually.
She asked me if I'd been feeling tired lately and I pointed out I'd just finished 12 months of cancer treatment and yes, I was tired........
She said I had a level in whatever the test is of 93 instead of the normal range of 3 - 5. So I needed to start taking Levothyroxine straight away.
I'm convinced they accidentally zapped my thyroid during the radiotherapy but they denied it of course!
I still often feel tired but I think it's probably the way I live my life now....

LOL - it's a lot less likely these days that they'll zap very much accidentally - but of course it does happen when stuff's right in the way and the only way the X-ray can get there is to risk the edge(s) of something else - but they do tell you this before you agree you do want to zap the cancer please - you're between a rock and a hard place, aren't you.

Still - fairly easily remedied anyway. And it's auto immune and your immune system had been required to work its socks off for however long the cancer had been growing so I would imagine - though this is the first time I've ever thought about this - that another AI condition is more likely to occur because of that, esp where you already have another one - than accidental zapping?
