Morning Everyone
So i went to my first DN appointment yesterday and it was so helpful, my nurse was very supportive and was very pleased with my knowledge so far and stated that i was on the right path and totally agrees with me about wanting to try and get into remission. She is letting me try for the next three months to lose weigh and be more active and see if that brings down my level which is currently 55 to see i can eliminate the need to metformin.
She gave me a BG monitor and is very happy about the idea of me checking my BG before meals and two hours after so that i can see what foods have what effect.
I am feeling good about this now and i am very lucky that i have this chance to improve my levels, and i feel very positive about this life style change.

Sounds like a fabulous appointment @Moburt

That nurse is a keeper!

How are things going? Have you got started with before and after meal checks yet?

One of the biggest questions when trying to get to grips with your diabetes is often ‘what can I eat’ and while there are obvious things like cakes, biscuits, sweets and sugary drinks that you will want to cut out straight away, you might be surprised how much *all* carbohydrate affects your BG levels, including rice, pasta, potatoes, bread, pastry, grains, cereals and many fruits.

Many new members find it can be really helpful to keep a food diary for a week or two. Noting down everything you eat and drink. It can be especially helpful to estimate the amount of carbohydrate in the meals and snacks to give you an idea of which foods are the main sources of carbs in your menu.

If you pair that with before and after BG readings, and experiment with portion sizes and types of carbs, aiming for a rise of 2-3mmol/l or less, you will have a very direct way to start to tweak your menu to suit the way your body reacts to different carbs.

Good luck, and let us know how things go!
