Im writing this from my hospital bed, yes im that bored .
Ive had a bit of a tummy bug and couldn't keep anything down, been feeling like rubbish and yesterday my ketones were 4.6 and bg was 30.5 so tried correcting it through the day and used 50 units of nova, then tested last night BG said hi and ketones were a very scary 7.3 so rang for an ambulance straight away..got to the hospital at 11pm and my latest test at 7 am was bg 14.2 ketones 0.6, cant believe they got me down so fast..the fluids were key to that and im feeling so much better for it, hope your all fit and well.
Adam

How stressful for you - you poor thing! I’m glad you’re feeling well enough to post. That’s great your blood sugar is down so quickly. Are they going to keep you in just to make sure you’re ok?

DKA is terrifying but take comfort in the fact you did everything right. Sometimes we just need a bit of extra help.

Sending you my best wishes for a very speedy recovery. Take it easy and look after yourself. X

Yes, the protocol is usually a couple days so they can monitor you, a day on glucose and insulin drips then a day just doing a normal routine then as long as your eating your good to go.
Many thanks for your kind message
Adam

Sorry to hear that you have had such a difficult experience, but it sounds as if you are getting great help.
Best wishes and hope you are back home soon.

Hi Adam, sorry you have been unwell, sounding hopeful now though so fingers crossed you will be home soon. Keep getting better then stay well.

Very sorry to hear of this but, glad to hear you’re being taken care of in hospital @brisr949

When you can’t keep anything down, you get dehydrated & that exacerbates everything!

Oh. One thing to do is check your feet! I was very dehydrated when admitted into hospital May 2017, noticed in passing that my feet were very dry, thought I’d better take care of that when I get home, then forgot about it with my battle to breathe later that night! By the time I got home two days later, my feet were SO dry that a 2 inch gash had opened up on my right foot that took 2 weeks to heal with copious amounts of Sudocrem!

So sorry you have ended up in hospital Adam well done on getting help take care.

So sorry to hear that you have been so poorly, but glad that they got your ketones sorted and levels dropping so quickly. DKA is horrible, but well done on doing the right thing in ringing an ambulance.

You might want to ask to see the DSN before you leave if that is possible, or get them to ring you once home to just go through you ur sick day rules with you again.

Take care and I hope that you are home soon.

Sorry you're ill and in hospital, but good to hear you're on the mend, take care and hope you're home soon.

Thanks for such lovely replies, really means a lot to me.
There releasing me in the morning and i feel brand new. Those fluids really are amazing.

What lovely news to read this morning.
Take care

Hopes dashed, I'm here just for one more day for obs, had a rotten night as ive been on hourly testing and my god their finger prickers hurt. But definitely home tomorrow.

Quite agree Adam. I'm sure they set those fingerprickers to level 6 just to make sure. And I was sitting there with a Libre sensor on. Eventually, they just took that as the reading, which gave my fingers a well earned break. I escaped after just short of three days, probably because they thought I was too cranky to tolerate.
