Well - she sounds about as helpful as the proverbial chocolate fireguard, doesn't she?

The MDI regime actually makes one HELL of a lot more sense to anyone with a brain, than mixed insulin and fixed doses does, Ingressus - for the simple reason all the calculations etc are totally based on fact and logic - not on the guesswork of what someone who isn't you, thinks you might need.

You know we'll try to help when you get there.

Tell me - have you ever tried just upping the morning dose from 28 to 29 and watching closely to see how that affects you?
Hi you ok? I have been brave and uping my doses without real permission still no progress, maybe you can help i dont understand how the 4 injections work is there a back ground insulin topped up with fast acting

Yes, 4 injections a day usually means 1 long acting / basal and 3 short acting / bolus, 1 per meal, matching dose of insulin to amount of carbohydrate and taking other factors into account. It is complicated, so a session with DSN, with follow up phonecalls is needed. If things get worse, then you can always ask for an earlier appointment, but if there aren't enough staff, there's not much anyone can do. Plus, DSN will need to bring the right kit to show you and prescriptions written.

Hi ,
I am pleased to see you are tweaking your insulin a bit. Rightly or wrongly I actually believe they expect us to try . The main thing is to do it carefully.

It only seems scary at first, mostly because atm you don’t know how and once you do it becomes easier and easier.

Honestly it’s fear of the unknown. Once you’ve gained some confidence with MDI you’ll start to think why didn’t they start me in this in the first place, why because your control will improve so much, you’ll probably be feeling much better than you have for a long time and you’ll know how to do corrections.
So please do t be afraid of MDI

Simon - why do you have no chance of doing ANY thing?

I didn't used to be able to drive. But then a patient man who was a driving instructor taught me how. Since then I've been able to drive and though it was a bit scary at first - it become more comfortable as I increased my familiarity with the process.

Everything sounds scary, when you haven't had it explained properly or done it before. But once you get used to doing it - it isn't frightening!

Try not to fret, you will soon get used to it and you will feel so much better when you're numbers start to come down 🙂
