Had my diabetes review today with the "health care assistant", a pleasant young woman but not very effective. She weighted me, took my blood pressure and because I asked looked at my feet. When I asked what my HbA1c is she said that the results were with the doctor (blood test was 11 days ago). I said that I would really like to know so she went off and came back and said that it is higher than it was when it was last done. I asked her for a figure and she said that she did not know that. I asked her about my thyroid function and she said that it was not part of the review so she did not know. She offered me the shingles vaccination and also the pneumonia vaccination. When I said that I was going on holiday tomorrow she said that I will have to make an appointment when I come back, but both could be done on the same day. I asked her about the pancreatic atrophy noted in the CT scans and she said that she did not know anything about it. In and out in less than 10 minutes. Not impressed. Going camping with the family tomorrow so I will have to deal with it when I return from my break on the 19th. I feel fine so that is good. Really don't know what to do next. :(

Honestly, it makes you wonder why they bothered calling in you in for a review! It's good that you feel fine, hope you have a great holiday and can get sorted out when you get back (just love your avatar btw! 🙂 )

They get paid handsomely for each vaccination, not surprised she was more interested in that.
Hope you have a good holiday.

That’s just shocking.
I’ve got my first ever review on the 17th,was supposed to be last week but the nurse had Covid. I’ve got lots of questions, I’m hoping she answers/ helps as that’s what I’m expecting.
Have a great holiday, certainly going to get nice weather.

Did your statins make your blood sugar go up? Iv started Atorvastatin the same day I was told my hbac1 was 43, so now I'm worried the statin will make it go up even higher

Sorry to hear about your disappointing appointment @happydog - I feel your frustration.

Hope you can just out that to one side now, and enjoy your holiday and pick up these questions with your GP when you get back.

Hope you can find some shade for your tent!

The reason the HCP couldn't help was because she has no access to your notes, also not qualified to answer questions.
If you do not have your blood test results online to see then ask for a print out of them. By law they have to provide them.

Thank you to everyone who replied. This is always such a lovely supportive forum. I have to take Letrozole now to control the oestragen in my body since the cancer. I am wondering if that is causing the rise in BG? I know that it can have that effect. Will put it all on the shelf until I come back from my break. Thanks again. 😉

Hi @Slky, I'll find out on Friday when I get my latest hba1c, but I don't think statins affect bg

They can do, if you Google it, stuff about it comes up. I’ve certainly had to increase my basal since I started a low dose, but it doesn’t seem to have affected my mealtime ratios, and of course, it could be a coincidence.
