My sister lives in the Balearic Isles. Yesterday they were notified that the island was pretty much on lockdown from midnight. She spent the day on the beach with her little boy as it was the last time they would be able to for a fortnight. This morning armed police are strolling around. Her neighbour was brought home by the police as he had walked his dog too far from his home - they are only allowed to walk them about 200m from their homes until the dog relieves itself and then head home. She popped to the supermarket and there are a strictly limited number of people allowed in (one in one out), big queue, gloves and face masks handed out to everyone prior to entry and they are not allowed within 2 metres of any other customer. Strict limits on how much can be bought too. Almost everything on the island that is non essential is closed - bars, restaurants, schools etc
I just popped to Sainsbury's first thing this morning. The place was packed, but a lot of empty shelves (eggs anyone??) Many people standing around chatting with their kids "I decided to not send him to school as he has a bit of a fever", "I'm the only member of the house without dodgy symptoms", "The girl I sit next to at work has got it. Might explain why I feel rubbish", "I was up all night coughing, but have stopped so I've come shopping". People still packing trolleys with items (I suppose they could be shopping for relatives or neighbours who are unwell, but still...!) I'm not currently at work due to an ongoing illness, but people there who are unwell with potential Coronovirus symptoms are being told to have a couple of days and hurry back otherwise school will struggle to cope.
Which approach is correct? I suppose only time will tell!
