I've got an appointment for late tomorrow morning. Not about going on a diet but as you may have guessed from the title of my thread it's learning about counting carbs. It's not a course.

An appointment was arranged at the end of last year when my DSN introduced me to the carbs & cals book and it was my choice. I've already cancelled one appointment as I genuinely couldn't make it.

But I'm now asking myself do I really need to go for this appointment? I don't want to wasting her time or mine.

Help - do I or don't I go?

You've nothing to lose Gill - they may tell you something that you hadn't thought of, and it will also be useful for asking questions if something they say doesn't fit with what you think you know (if you see what I mean!) 🙂 Plus, if you don't go at this late stage you probably will waste her time because there may not be anyone available to take your place.

It's a bit late to cancel it now isn't it?
You will be amazed what you can learn from the dietitian. Esp about adjusting your insulin. 🙂

go for it you have nothing to loose and you could learn a lot. ANything that helps you keep control is good, go for it and tell us how you get on.

I would take anything and everything that is available to you, no time will be wasted....🙂

My appointment with the dietician went as follows

- I showed her that I've got a copy of the carbs & cals book - she had one too on her desk

- she asked me and noted down what my BS levels are like - to which I said about all the hypos I'm having at the moment

- she said that the ratio of 1:10 (one unit of insulin to every 10g carbs) is what everybody is started on and also one of the easiest. She then asked me what ratios I'm doing at the moment and when I said I'm doing 1.5:10 at teatime which is what my DSN said to go on she said to do a bit of contradicting and go back to doing 1:10 which is what I've been thinking of doing anyway - I think 1.5:10 is a bit much for me at teatime at the moment.

- she mentioned to me about maybe trying some of the best of both bread which would raise BS levels more slowly.
I like to go easy with my diet as I suffer with ulcerative colitis 😡.

- she said that if I sruggled with anything else in the future to make an appointment and go back and see her.

and that was basically it.
